Hendo_Wanderlei
to me this fight isnt about couture and noguera as much as its about wrestling vs BJJ. Im very interested to how this playes out. If a wrestler as skilled as randy gets on top will he be able to avoid the submissions and control nog from the guard and GnP him, or if the shoe is on the other foot and nog is on top can a wreslter survive the submission attempts of someone as skilled as nog? This is a very interesting fight from a technical standpoint. So will the wrestling mentality of controling your opponent and GnP him win out, or will the BJJ chess player mentality of waiting for your oppnent to make a mistake prevail? Im interested in hearing what everyone elses opinion on this is. Which technique is superior? Also who will win and why?
crazybrazilian1
yea dude.. ur right... take Lesnar and mir for example.... brock is a huge guy, but if brock didnt have his wrestli g background he would not do soo well like he does in the octagon.. StompGrind
You have a great point about styles etc. but it doesn't mean anythings superior either way it goes.Randy knows some BJJ and Nog knows some wrestling too. This is MMA afterall. Both of them cross train even though thier background is strong in one area or the other. The way I see this fight playing out is Nog will out box Randy. Randy will eventuallly clinch and take Nog down he will play GnP in Nogs guard. Nog will weather the storm and Nog will eventually submit Randy from the guard or it might go to decision but If Nog gets on top it's over in less than 2 minutes. That's my prediction anyway. Leal47
Nog is most Dangerous on his back so Randy can take him down and still be dangerous for Randy I think Nog will win this fight his hungry and so is randy but when Nog fought Mir he wasn't himself he had a Staph infection and was all messed up this Nog is coming to kill!! And his boxing is not that bad either.... Remember what happened to HENDO when Silva chocked him Silvas BJJ trainer is NOG and BJJ won that war. Mtx
I dont think Randy will take this to the ground unless is totally necesary. I think he will just clinch with Nog and press him against the cage and do some dirty boxing. Randy will only try to go to the ground when he knows he can finish it. Jade7
This is a classic matchup and it has been a long time in the making, but in a way I hate to see it because I love both of these guys and will hate to see one of them losing tonight. I expect Randy will try to use his wrestling expertise to keep the fight standing and work his boxing or striking from the clinch, and look to set up takedowns at the end of rounds to score points but not leave Nog time to work for the sub. I think Nog has underrated striking despite his loss to Mir, but he will be looking to take the fight to the ground and will probably need to pull guard to take Randy down unless he can hurt him first with strikes. It's very tough fight to call, but I'm going with Randy by UD- although I almost picked Nog by sub instead.
joshdfs
This debate has gone on and on for years in MMA and still there is no clear cut superior technique. Ive seen many BJJ guys take out greta wrestlers and have seen many wrestlers take out BJJ black belts. It basically comes down to not which style or technique is better but what fighter imposes his gameplan better. This fight is personally one I have waited for years to see and for me is just way to close to call. Both these guys are so adept at working their gameplan and imposing their will. I mean, I've wanted to see it for a long time, but it sucks one has to lose. I think N0G has a better shot than most people think though. Randy is the favorite for sure, but N0G can pull a win out of nowhere. I also see his strong Judo skills being able to help him couter Randys great wrestling. On the ground Randy will have to be VERY careful. He likes to GnP, but that can be the end of you against a BJJ wizard like N0G esspecially in the late rounds when your tired and more sloppy. Thats when N0G is at his best. He can take the best shots Randy has to give and still have the ring knowledge and position awareness to catch that late round sub. I'm taking N0G via a late round sub or a SD
