SwiftSpear
I really really loved this fight, it showcased some AMAZING talent in the UFC light heavyweight division and I think both guys can really take this match as a feather in their cap. Vera gets another win over a tough tough opponent, and does so while making me wonder the whole time what a fight with him vs Machida would look like, and Krystof sticks in there punch for punch against a guy who is better than him at MMA at every aspect of the game. If you didn't think Krystof was tough before, you have to think so now after seeing him eat all the combos, leg kicks, and body kicks Vera threw at him. Those were the same kicks that stopped Vera's last opponent in the first round remember. The other fights on this card were a bit less compelling to me anyways. You have a grind out war that really mostly just confirmed that Randy is actually finally past his prime, you have 2 flash knockouts in Greg Jackson camp fights, one in thier favor and one against, which while great to see, like most flash knock outs, really don't tell you alot about either sets of fighters, and then you have a Chris Leben fight that goes EXACTLY as expected and further proves leben is probably the least technical fighter in MMA. Oh and there was a flash KO on the undercard too, yay! Anyways, it was a decent card overall, but Vera vs Krystoff is the fight that made this card special to me. Jiu_Jitsu_Johnny
Agreed. I really liked this fight as well. If Vera can stay motivated he could be a genuine threat for the LHW title.
SwiftSpear
The thing about Vera going for the title. I don't see Vera beating Rampage, Rashad, or Shogun... but I could see Vera beating Machida... He'll have an interesting road to get there if he makes it... RevelationWT
I honestly enjoyed the main event more. Felt like that answered more questions, though many disagree. I'm not sure if Vera counter punches as much usually. It was a shutdown, but not my cup of tea (for fight night that is!). I thought the main event had the engaging that this fight didn't. - Just a different kind of fight, and I can appreciate that. Definitely answered questions. Vera is very technical and fast at the weight now, he's gonna get better I think, maybe fly under the radar into title contention. I'm sure many people who watched the Marquardt/Maia fight were like "OMG ... well, we still don't know anything".

If you watched the Machida vs Rashad at ufc at ufc 98 you will see he destroyed him and that his stand up is top notch. None of the 3 fighters you stated have better stand up then Machida and Vera will have never fought any one who can get a head kick in so fast and circle out within a second. Also if it gets taken to the ground Machida's ground game is amazing as well. Machida will destory Vera if that fight ever gets there but rampage and rashad are the next coaches on ultimate fighter 10 so I believe the winner of that fight will get a title shot after the Machida vs Shogun fight. MEKfighter
Noway was this fight anywhere near as good as the main event. Lol i honestly knew that if Randy Couture lost, so many people would come onto this forum and say, ohhhh that fight wasnt worth anything to Nog because it was against a Couture that is past it.... Come on... That fight was inspirational to me, the heart and talent displayed by Couture was just tremendous. He got his **** handed to him by Nog, but kept battling through, and threw his own powerful punches that connected. Infact, what the fight showed me more, is that Randy can still compete at the top. He can still compete with the best fighters. It also showed me that Nog is most definetly back on top form - please dont say different because he was against an 'old' Couture - Big Nog looked unbelievable in that fight, he looked sharp and focused, and very dangerous on the ground. It also proved the fact IMO that he was in very bad shape coming into the Mir fight, he looed like a completely different fighter. IMO that was one of the best fights imv seen in a while, it was amazing. I thought that Vera, although he fought well, could have fought a little more aggressive. Because towards the end of the fight, Krystof looked like target practice towards the end of the fight. I though Vera could have punished him more - but maybe he was just wary of Krystofs power... i dont know. It was nowhere near as good as the Couture vs Nog fight though. No way. crazybrazilian1
well to me this fight the one of the worst in the card.... Krystof was out classes, but neither fighter was in no real danger though out the fight..
StompGrind
Fight was poor' date=' it was like watching a sparring session[/quote'] I agree. They had a few explosive exchanges here and there but I didn't really see much "Bad Intentions" after that. Neither guy really pressed the fight. To me it was an ok fight. It wasn't boring but Nog and Randy was much better.
xdusty
i thought it was a good fight. nothing spectacular though. i think vera should have been more aggresive in his striking. he was finding a home for his foot and fist in the third round and should have turned it up to try and finish it. krystof has a solid ground game. i wish he woulda takin vera down and gave him some punishment then went for kimura sp?. i just think they both shoulda put together a more in depth game plan and went through with it. joshdfs
I was a bit disappointed with this one. Neither fighter committed to go for a finish and Vera decided to grind out a points win. Someone with the skill set of Vera should have done more to finish the obviously technically inferior fighter.

Vera's game plan was to punch, rather than kick his way to victory but i noticed in round 2 he lost quite a bit of punching power. he took almost no damage and just stuffed the takedowns, which was funny. im a huge Vera fan but i think he needs some serious strength and conditioning for the 205 Div. Exodus9mm
I have to completely disagree that this fight was interesting at all. In my opinion, it was the worst of the main 5. As others pointed out, it looked like a sparring session. Brandon Vera did absolutely nothing to prove he's of contender status, and Krystoff simply looked mediocre (although he does have a decent chin). Vera continues to prove his inconsistancy and there's no way in hell he'll be a contender at LHW. Krystoff remains to be seen, as he has fought 4 times in 8 months - I like the fact that he steps up when a replacement is needed. He looked sluggish, inaccurate and without gameplan. And if Vera can't dismantle a guy of this caliber, why do people think he'll do any better against MUCH better competition.

He cant hang with the big boys in the LHW Division. time will tell. he won this fight without a KO or sub....happens sometimes doesnt mean he cant hang with the 205. he just needs to work on his punching power since dropping to 205, because i think the TRX system he uses isnt helping with his strength. as i said, i liked the fight......loads on here said krystof wud destroy vera....take him down at will lol. Def not the best fight of the night. Great night of fights though. best UFC event ive seen in a while.

We will see what happens in his next fight. I hope they let him fight someone better than Krystof.

Vera and Shogun would be an awesome battle. Machida would pick vera apart at this point in his career but maybe if vera pulls off some more wins then he will probably be able to compete for the title.. TigerChamp
man i seem like the one of the only guys on these forums who does not have a problem admitting this fight was rather boring. if that was the headline bout, i'd be pissed. SwiftSpear
I guess I'm more impressed by what the fight showed than what the fight was. Ya, it was basically Vera making Krystof look technically hopeless and at the same time Krystof making Vera look powerless. So we learn that Vera is techincally speaking a frigging marvel of the sport, and if he continues to condition well there are very few guys who can stop him from outpointing them, and that Krystof is a tough **** guy who can go out there and totally be a punching bag the whole time, but still never show any sign of weakness. Vera isn't powerless, he'll KO or TKO most lower teir competition in LHW, and at the same time Krystof isn't technically terrible, he's a head taller in technical ability than most of the lower tier LHW division. That was why the fight was interesting, it was a gorgian knot of 2 guys who are in their own right spectacular fighters, just being too good for the other guy to finish.
