Top 10 Light Heavyweight Rankings

Following suit, here's my take on the global LHW situation.

10. Thiago Silva

9. Wanderlei Silva

8. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

7. Rashad Evans

6. Vitor Belfort

5. Shogun Rua

4. Anderson Silva

3. Gegard Mousasi

2. Rampage Jackson

1. Lyoto Machida

Now, there's a few hitches here - Belfort is dropping to MW and Rich Franklin is bulking up to LHW - so worst case scenario, swap Ace for Vitor. Wandy sounds like he's dropping down too, so that technically leaves a vacancy.

Another tiny hitch might be getting Nog down to 205 :P

Call me old fashioned but I still believe Randy could beat anything in your list between 5th and 10th (of course if you dont have Nog as above!)

umm i think hes referring to nog's younger brother whos fightin in UFC soon... silva should be higher though after beating forrest who beat ur number 2 in rampage and might move thiago up too after knocking out jardine...maybe more like this,

10. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

9. Rich Franklin

8. Forrest Griffin

7. Thiago Silva

6. Rashad Evans

5. Shogun Rua

4. Gegard Mousasi

3. Rampage Jackson

2. Anderson silva

1. Lyoto Machida

This one's more like it i rekon, I'm surprised Wandy still makes other people's top ten lists, don't get me wrong I'm a big fan and I know he's a legend of the sport but when you've lost 5 out of your last 6 that kinda suggests there's plenty of guys out there better than you.

My top 10 would look a bit different:

1. Machida

2. Rampage

3. Shogun

4. Mousasi

5. Evans

6. Thiago Silva

7. Franklin

8. Griffin

9. Nogueira

10. Hamill

Cant include A. Silva as it is not for sure he is moving up. I would like to include guys like Wanderlei Silva or Tito Ortiz but you have to consider their present form and results.

I would love to include Anderson on the list, and he would take the #2 spot if I did, but since he won't challenge for the belt while Machida holds it the best he can be at 205 is a spoiler right now. I am putting Hendo on the list, though, because he fights regularly at 205 and would have no problem taking a title shot if the opportunity arose.

3. Shogun Rua

5. Rich Franklin

I like your top 7, and then I'd throw in Jon Jones and bump Forrest and Rich down a spot. If Rua looks pretty bad in his fight against Machida I push him out of the top ten after only beating an over-the-hill Liddell and doing nothing else to put him in the top ten over the last couple years. A good showing against Machida and I'd leave him somewhere in the bottom half though...

Solid none the less, but I can't have Anderson Silva at #2 in LHW simply because he beat Forrest who beat Rampage. From a career perspective, Rampage has fought the who's who. Anderson has not, yet anyway. I give him his due at MW, where he obviously owns the #1 spot. I'm hard pressed to have Forrest Griffin on my Top 10 list too.

Although opinion, I can't give you much credit in realism when you've got Bones Jones at the 4 spot. Although a potential phenom, he still has at least 2-3 wins over solid competition to crack the Top 10. Vera and Hamill? Vera MAYBE, Hamill, not a chance in hell. All opinion though

Good points on Hendo and A Silva. I can't believe you'd have Luiz Cane at 8 above Rashad and especially Mousasi. To each their own.

Evans was a tough one for me to place- I just don't think he's looked that great in his recent wins, except for the KO of Chuck. I think Cane would probably win if the two of them fought now, and I expect Cane is going to be getting a lot of attention in 2010, but both him and Evans really need a couple more fights against top guys at 205 to see if they're headed up or down in the division.

I really think Mousasi probably deserves to be somewhere in the top 5 at LHW, but he's still pretty untested against top talent as well so it's hard to say. Hopefully he will finish out his contract with Strikeforce and sign with the UFC so we can see him against some top competition next year.

Well said. I agree Cane will make noise in 2010 and he and Evans would make for a stellar fight. Mousasi's ranking is debateable, as you've pointed out his average competition level, but I just can't see how this guy isn't one of the next big things. He has fought some stellar names though recently. His last 6 fights have been against - Babalu, Mark Hunt, Jacare (Ronaldo Souza), Melvin Manhoef, Dok Sik Yoon, and Denis Kang. 3 subs, 2 kos, 1 decision. The kid is an animal and he trains with Fedor. The sky is the limit.

I must say you have probably THEE worst ranking system EVER!

Mousasi has only fought one at 205, and you can't count the superhulk gp either. The rest of his fights have been at 185. Vitor has been a middleweight since his departure from the UFC back in like 05. How is Wanderlei in a the top ten too with his only recent win over keith jardine.

I agree Mousasi is going to just keep getting better- to have accomplished what he already has at his age is amazing. I think he would have a chance against just about anybody in the UFC at 205. It may be for the best though that he didn't sign with the UFC just yet, so he can continue to gain experience for another year or so before being put in with the top guys in the octagon every fight. Let's hope Dana really makes an effort to sign him next time he becomes available, though!

Jones- undefeated with wins over Andre Gusmao, Stephan Bonnar and Jake O'brien definitely deserves top ten.

Brandon Vera- just beat a very tough Krystof and only has a loss to Keith Jardine at 205. He deserves it too. WAY more then Vitor Belfort.....

Mousasi is not going back to MW, so there's no point in ranking him there. He'd easily takeout Luiz Cane, Brandon Vera, Shogun and likely Rashad with ease.

Regardless of Wandy's recent losses, he possesses undebateable potential to beat anyone he steps in the ring with. To place Brandon Vera or Jon Jones in front of him, is laughable.

yeah, no way Vera is top 10. Jones number 10 at best until he beats more people. not saying he doesn't have potential, but he hasn't made it there yet.

Machida

A Silva (regardless of 185/205 switching)

Rampage

Shogun (until he loses to Machida)

Mousasi

Thiago Silva

Luis Cane

A R Nogiera

Evans (until he loses to Rampage)

Jon Jones

I can't see either Vera or Jones as top 10 right now. Vera's best win at 205 was his decision last Saturday angainst Krzysztof, and he lost a decision to Jardine, neither of whom would be on most sane people's top 10 lists. He hasn't beaten any other top 10 LHW yet, and he better at least take one to a close decision before he gets ranked there.

As for Jones, I think he has great potential, but he hasn't fought any top fighters yet and is still inexperienced. If beating Bonnar makes you top 10, then Coleman should be on the list, too. There are too many proven fighters at LHW right now to put Jones in the top ten- yet. Give him another year and I think that will change.

Henderson isn't in my list, but I'll switch him with Belfort to concede. I agree, Vitor probably shouldn't have been on there. Hendo however has fought at 2 classes his entire career, and would have zero problem moving up. I'll sub him with Vitor.

Pretty consistent lists as far as Machida being one. Rampage being one is at best laughable though. He wouldn't last 3 minutes with Machida. WAAAYYY to slow and one dimesional. I'm not sure he can beat Rashad. That should be a good fight because Dana said those 2 hate each other. Also I think Thiago is to far down on most lists. Remember his only loss was to Machida. I think he could take Rampage or Rashad, and Rua already beat Rampage in one of the worst beatings I've ever seen. But...opinions are like ****s, everyone's got one and they all stink.

How is Rampage beter than Lyoto Machida, and why odes it matter that Anderson switches weight classes? He's still one of the best.
