UFCbeatdown88
This is my dream fight if only it could be possible. Anderson the best striker in the ufc vs gracie one of the best bjj practicioners of all time. Who do u think would win? If they were both in there prime i believe it would end in the 1st round via submission gracie.

Personally, I think if you took Gracie in his prime and had him in the UFC today, he'd be exactly like Demian Maia. He'd get a quick wakeup call from guys like Marquardt. Not taking anything away from Gracie and his importance on the sport, but he'd get handed regularly against modern competition. Silva would stuff any takedown attempt, and feed him. Also, you should read up and watch some stuff on Rickson Gracie, he's much better than Royce.
Alpha_Omega
I have to agree. A Gracie in his prime was a BJJ master fighting people who didn't know what BJJ was. I mean, watch Royce Vs Hughes and you'll see an example of Royce vs a modern day warrior. Hughes could have broke Royce's arm if he wanted to but he didn't out of respect. Once of the reason's Gracie was so dominant was the BJJ was pretty much unknown. Not taking any credit from him, the dude was amazing. But now EVERYONE trains in BJJ, so his advantage wouldn't be eliminated because he'd still be better at it than everyone else, but the advantage would be much, much smaller. Hell, put him in there with Maia now. That'd be a cool fight...
joshness
As much as I love Royce, I really don't see a Prime Royce fairing too well against Silva. I just don't see Royce taking Anderson down or being able to pull guard. Anderson would eat him up standing. If Royce didn't get knocked out, I can definately see a repeat of the Leites fight. If somehow it did go to the ground, I wouldn't count Anderson out. Especially if Anderson had dominant position. Also, what kind of rules are we going with? Unified Rules or the old UFC/Pride rules? Time limit?

UCFMRE
Gracie would have no chance against Silva. Silva would never let it go to the ground and would dominate the stand-up game.
StompGrind
Royce never evolved with the sport he'd get crushed now. Look at what hughes did and that was on the ground. Even if he was in his prime today the sport has evolved too much. He'd get beaten buy even by much lesser opponents than Silva. Renzo to me is the most well rounded gracie or atleast the first to seriously cross train. Rickson had the best ground game no doubt but but I have much more respect for Royce and Renzo because they always stepped up to fight the toughest competition unlike Rickson who only fought a few tough opponents and used money as a crutch to not fight the best. Good call about Renzo, one of the only Gracie's who likes to punch. There is a lot of hoohaw around Rickson and his claims too.

Royce Gracie was hugely important to the sport, but Royce never had the ability to strike or take strikes like modern fighters can. If Gracie was able to secure a takedown before he got hit, then the fight could be interesting, but otherwise Anderson would knock him out quickly. Also bare in mind that even at his prime, Royce Gracie's jiu jitsu probably wasn't much better than the majority of current UFC fighters. Matt Hughes was able to secure him in an armbar after just a couple of minutes, and would have ended up breaking Royce's arm if he hadn't decided that he didn't want to end the fight that way. Fedorp4pking
Royce was great at a time when MMA was about style vs style.. A silva wont even get submitted by Gracie.. hes also a black belt and has way more size over him... when you have 2 extremely talented fighters.. the stronger one will win... and lets not forget A silva will knock him out unless Gracie decides to lay and pray from the start.. i have all the respect in the world for Royce.. he came to America challenging all the greatest fighters in the world putting up $100,000 rewards to anyone who beat him.. and then started War of the Worlds which then became known as the UFC just to put his skills to the test.. the Gracie family could of picked anyone to go and compete but they picked Royce because he was the smallest of the brothers.. and him winning it would make an even bigger statement about BJJ.. no doubt BJJ is the single greatest martial art to learn.. but a well rounded MMA fighter will beat any discipline... G__row
Depends which Gracie you are referring to. Anderson is an evolved fighter. Royce at his best would not stand a chance. Rickson is a different story.
kman747
Even though Royce was one of the best of HIS time i don't think he'd be the best of OUR time. If he faced Anderson i think he would loose.
Alpha_Omega
nah man he tried hard to brake it.. he only stopped because he realized Gracie had no intentions on tapping out any time soon... Nah, he even said it in a recent interview I think it was on the ultimate 100. He said he wasn't applying full force (as most people don't) and thought of breaking his arm but didn't want to do that to Royce out of respect for basically making MMA what it is. But if you ask Renzo or Royce who was the one person they would not fight it was Rickson! Every member of Gracie jiu jitsu, family or not, says Rickson was the very best. He was like the teacher/master of BJJ. He took the style his faher originated to an entirely different level. Without him there is no Royce, Renzo, and thus no UFC! And I stand with the majority of posters here, Silva, a BJJ blackbelt himself, would likely destroy Royce, as much as I hate to say it!
