Tropic_Thunder
Yves 'stand em up' Lavigne has got to be by far the worst referee in MMA. He only added to his not so stellar reputation at ufc 102 in the Leben/Rosalt match. First when Leben who had been losing much of the fight mounted his first real offensive and was landing strikes within rosalt's guard. Lavigne of course stood the fighters up. Then later when Rosalt had Leben dead to rights in an Arm triangle. Watched as Leben weakly tapped out, appeared to move in then backed off then finally stopped the match. At which point Leben went into convulsions. Any referee should know when an arm triangle is sunk in and the offensive fighter is outside the guard and bellied out that is just a matter of how long the victim can hold his breath, Anything, anything resembling a tap should signal the end of the fight. ANd of course who can forget the matt brown/pete sell fight where Lavigne waived the fight stopped after brown kick sell in the face, only to start it up seconds later and let brown continue to kick sell in the head, all while brown pleaded with Lavigne to stop the fight for the love of God before Sell died. These are just extreme examples, Lavigne is an aweful referee in general and imposes himself too much in matches and doesn't let fighters work through situations on the mat and against the cage. THis guy needs to go.

JediMindTricks
Yeah I don't know. D.W. must owe him some money or somethin because he never fails to screw up. Dan Mirgliata was giving him a run for his money for a while but Lavigne is the worst for sure. Herb Dean should referee every fight lol The state comission picks the ref, the UFC doesn't have a say in who gets to ref their events.. And Lavigne had instructed them that a single tap was not a tapout, it has to 2 or 3 clear taps. And Leben was trying to tap but he passed out before he could finish his motion. Lavigne stopped it 3 seconds later, move on...

Alpha_Omega
Lavigne should have been fired for the Matt Brown Vs Pete Sell fight.
pridewars
yeah that was ridiculous. Matt Brown was like do i have to seriously kill this guy to win. He felt so bad for pete after the match.
kmdsounddotcom
Leban was out! He's compromising the safety of the fighters unfortunately. He needs to be more careful :/ http://www.kmdsound.com
ogmmafan
Why dont you f****ers go become referees then!! The athletic commissions have to work with what they've got; mma is still a relatively new sport and so alot of the ref's are going to be new as well give Lavigne a few years and he'll be fine IMO........ Cornish
I dont think it was in any way a clear tap. If Leben wanted to tap he left it too late, his choice. I was under the impression that a tap was 3 clear taps not 2 secs of going limp wristed... You can talk all day about it being clear that he was in a hold that he wasnt going to escape from but on the same card how many times did Randy escape what looked to be inescapable holds? What would people have said if the ref had stopped the fight because Randy had been in a tight spot? Its down to the fighter to decide whether they cant get out and then whether they want to tap out or black out.... Refs are damned if they stop a fight early and damned if they stop it late. Doesnt seem like there are many perfect calls these days as everybody seems to have an opinion.
mil1lion
I agree, i think Leben took the passout option. He could have tapped sooner but his pride in front of his home crowd wouldn't let him until it was too late. Is it me or did Yves get booed before one of the fights? I'm sure when Bruce Buffer mentioned his name he got some boos from the crowd.
