Condit vs MacDonald at UFC 115

Recommended Posts

A welterweight contest between former WEC champ Carlos Condit (24-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and recent Canadian UFC newcomer Rory MacDonald (10-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will likely be part of June's UFC 115 card.

A source close to one of the competitors today told MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) verbal agreements are in place for the fight, though bout agreements have not been signed.

Although not officially announced, UFC 115 is expected to take place June 12 at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The night's main card airs on pay-per-view.

As MMAjunkie.com reported on Monday, Condit recently had to pull out of a UFC 108 co-headliner with Paul Daley after suffering a hand injury. While moving garbage from his garage, Condit sliced his hand, and one of the tendons in his hand became severely infected with staph.

After a subsequent surgery, Condit spent six weeks on IV antibiotics with a large needle (called a PICC line) stuck in his arm at all times. He couldn't lift weights, grapple, or hit anything. Otherwise, he was told, his blood might clot and block the flow of drugs. After the layoff, he said he planned to return to full training this week.

Condit has won nine of his past 10 fights, which included a WEC title run that included three successful defenses. He moved to the UFC in early 2009 and dropped an extremely close split decision to Martin Kampmann in the main event of UFC Fight Night 18. He rebounded in September with an equally close split-decision victory over Jake Ellenberger.

His opponent, MacDonald, who won titles with King of the Cage and King of the Cage Canada prior to joining the UFC, made his octagon debut earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 20, where he submitted veteran Mike "Joker" Guymon in the first round. MacDonald, a 20-year-old who first fought professionally as a 16-year-old, has posted stoppages in all 10 of his career wins.

This is a huge step up for MacDonald and a tremendous opportunity for the young prospect. Someone already posted a thread saying he would be fighting at UFC 115 so I figured I would start a new one with his opponent.

I would not be surprised to see MacDonald take this one.
