AssassinNinja
I've seen a lot of different opinions on this forum already, in the like... One day I've been registered for. So, which do you think is better, 10th planet, or BJJ? Why? Theres a lot of people out there who hate on 10th planet for stupid reasons, or don't know much about it, so It'll be interesting to see how many go for straight BJJ instead. BJJ was created by the Gracies, and was proven time and time again to be better than other martial art forms, in competitions such as the early UFC events. It uses the gi, which isn't ideal for MMA. 10th Planet JJ was created by Eddie Bravo, who crated his own moves and used them in competition. He is famous for beating Royler Gracie with a triangle choke, after showing some of his skills with half guard and rubber guard. Many people believe that 10th planet is the next stage in the evolution of jiu-jitsu. It is a no-gi system, good for MMA. Edit: Sorry if this has already been done before. Trodrigues
10th planet JJ is BJJ with a few new moves, right ? then 10th planet JJ is better, BUT... BJJ have better praticioners and you would learn more from a good BJJ teacher because they are better then 10th planet's. For example, if I get a BJJ black belt then add some nice moves that I developted and then call it Rodrigues Jiu-jitsu it would be better than BJJ, but I wouldn't beat a good BJJ praticioner. Remedx
Jiu Jitsu came from Japan. The Gracies critiqued it. I think the reasons why, as you say 10th planet jiu jitsu, is better for MMA considering there are no Gi's in MMA. The rubber guard on the basic level is a great defense that keeps your opponent from posturing with other defense variations like crack head control, etc. Then there are so many attacks you can get using the rubber guard including the omaplata, the fancy gogoplata, a few different triangles including the crack head triangle (has that been done in mma not sure). Using the typical guard you have to use your hands to hold your opponent's neck or get wrist control to prevent taking damage and like the rubber guard there are several attacks like arm bars, triangles and sweeps. So the major difference comes from the defensive capabilities of both guards and the rubber guard is far better in that area so my vote is for the "10th planet jiu jitsu"

Its pretty debatable over who can teach better, but I dont think style would decide how good one person can teach their style. Lets not judge that. 10th Planet JJ IS BJJ with a few more moves. Actually, a lot more moves. You can almost use 10th planet moves exclusively, without using any BJJ. But its not really meant to be used like that anyway. So, you're saying at the end that making up your own moves that you developed couldn't make you beat a good BJJ practitioner, even if the moves were really good? Eddie Bravo did, so that argument is a bit flawed...

Much more. Dont compare the two based on only the Rubber Guard. Theres plenty of half guard sweeps, theres twister side control, theres the truck, loads of extra stuff. Otherwise, you are right, that rubber guard is good in MMA. Theres no guard that is the best, that will work every time, but many people believe that Rubber Guard gives higher percentage of success in your sweeps and submissions. kyokushin4life
i personally prefere bjj as i love using the gi, as theres so many more moves possible. But 10th planet is more designed for mma but i think they can both cross over well
Slevin8
go bravo my vote went to the 10th planet BJJ may be the basis, but progression wins the race plus bravo is awesome anyways i do agree though that BJJ has better teachers and better practitioners give 10th planet a few years
So_Amazing
10th planet definitely, I love using the rubber guard, and I believe it has the stronger half guard. And besides if you are really good with rubber you can be unstoppable from that position with all the modifications. If any of you want to learn 10th planet techniques just go to submissions101.com or 10thplanetjiujitsu.com but for that one you have to pay. Submissions 101 I dont always find to be the best source of jiu-jitsu information... Plenty of the moves there I'd never use, only some of the 10th planet and BJJ basics. AssassinNinja
Well I think Submission 101 is great' date=' plus you should expect the basics of jiu jitsu considering its called Submissions 101 lol.[/quote'] Yes, its called submissions 101. Not sweeps 101 or control 101. It also isnt about positioning 101 or stretching 101. I can name a million things that it isn't (Some of these, it tries to be). Theres a lot of basics that they dont cover in submissions 101, and personally, Im not a fan of guys who go to submissions 101 and become jiu-jitsu noobs from the tube'. Although I was one to start with, then I started going to lessons. :S Anyway, back on topic? Yes, the rubber guard and half guard are very good, and I use them whenever I get the chance. I DO still need to improve both, and start using them effectively in rolling rather than being owned when I try. It usually works best when I stick to the basics, I only ever use old school sweep from half guard, or when they are too big and strong, and dont move, I take their back with it. With rubber guard, I usually transition to the meathook instead and go for triangles. Just have had more practice with the meathook. Otherwise, I go to New York, and get passed. (Yeah, if you dont know 10th planet, not much of that will make sense)
