Anyone else think Jon Jones has been given Vera too early?

Jon jones is one of my favourite fighters, altough I can't help but think he's fighting Vera too early?

Brandon Vera is a top contender who'd be a real handful for any guy at 205.

My view has changed recently on Jones, I think he's defo a future champion, but I don't wanna see him lose this early.

I could be very wrong here though and he could stop Vera, if he does where u think that puts him in the 205 mix?

Thoughts please???

Jon jones is top 10 for sure ... Vera is a perfect opponent to test jones..

Anyone noticed that Jon jones and ryan bader have been given the top 2 gatekeepers in the LHW (Vera and Jardine)

Perfect test for both of them , this will pretty much determine if they are a force in the LHW or if they still need more time to become a force in the LHW ...

Matt hammill was given the same test and he fail

Yea its not really to early, Vera has fought a who's who more so than Jones but he's comin off a loss, well I dont think he lost but i'm not a judge, so he does kinda need to face someone lower on the food chain which just due to lack of named fights happens to be Jones, and they no styles make fights ppl love and this ones got War written all over it.

I think the reasons Jones has been given Vera so early is that it'll one of two things:

1) it'll justify Jones, and answer a lot of question about him. Finally showing that he is for real and not just a guy who's overwhelmed other young fighters. This time he's fighting someone with credibility (more than bonnor had) that'll show he's ligit.

2) it'll rebound Vera off his loss over a proven up and comer, showing that he more than a gate keeper and is ready to start his comeback again.

I think it's a step up in competition for him, but i think that Bones will be able to strike with him, and he has great greco roman wrestling.

Hats off to Joe Silva for creating this matchup, i don't think they could have made a better stylistic matchup for either one to show off their skills

I've said it before on another thread but Jones by triple axle spinning back elbow, round 2

I thought Jones was freestyle? Vera has a Greco background, he is no joke on the ground or in the clinch.Tough fight for Jones but hopefully he can come out the winner.

Jones might be freestyle wrestler im not sure, and i understand that Vera has a very good wrestling pedigree as well, i mean Couture couldn't take him down. His Muay Thai is top notch so this will be a difficult fight for Jones. The way Jones took down Hamill (an amazing wrestler as well) with ease, makes me believe that he could very well do it to Vera. This is his second camp with GSP so his wrestling will continue to evolve. If Jones gets on top of you he is flat out relentless and I really hope he pulls this one out.

The sky is the limit for this kid, No Bones about it

If he was getting a fight against another competitor who would it be? Vera is a good challenge for Jones and set to be a great matchup of styles, at least on paper. He's put a lot of work in and it has showed where his sill set is at the moment... regardless if he wins or loses this is a good fight for both fighters.

I have Jones taking this one decisively.

Too early is a loaded question in the UFC. Some fighters have stepped in with almost no experience and been thrown right agains the wolves and some have beat can after can.

that being said Vera is a huge jump in competition vs. Hamil in my opinion but even still I look for a good fight with my prediction being more along the lines of it could go either way. I like Jone's wrestling but he's not faced a striker of Vera's caliber so who knows.

i like jones as well...perfect match-up for him and a good test...what he did to hamill was simply outstanding...he has the potential to be what A Silva is to the MW...and hes only 22?wow

All you have to do is look at my sig to see what I think. I've been pretty good at picking out great fighters. Jones is one of the best up and comers I have ever seen. Vera is a really talented individual. It'll be a good fight, but I have a sneaky suspicion that Jones is about to prove why there is a lot of buzz surrounding him.

Not at all. Jones absolutely dominated Hamill' date=' who isn't a million miles apart from Vera in terms of skill. I think this will be a test for Jones but I don't think Vera will be able to do much against him.[/quote']

Vera is quite a large chunk of miles ahead in skills over Matt Hamill. I have nothing against Hamill, but he's just not anything more than a gatekeeper. Tough match for anyone, but not a contender by any means. Vera is a legitimate contender and a dangerous match for anyone in the division. Jones I think will beat Vera, he has all the tools to beat Vera, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Vera winning and moving on the a title fight against Shogun or the Dragon. We shall see, it's going to be an interesting ride..

Bones FTW

Vera is a talented guy, he has one of the most complete skillsets in the game, good kickboxing, good wrestling, and good subs... But that is just it, he is good at everything but not great at anything.

Jones on the other hand is a great striker. Unorthodox angles and obvious power in all limbs. They say he is a great wrestler too, though we haven't been able to see much of that.

I see Jones as fulfilling the promise that Vera showed years ago and just has never fulfilled himself.

And a Jones/Silva matcup would be awesome! I would like to see that as Silva's final fight, a passing of the torch in a few years so to speak. But I think Silva will be out of the division before Bones is in title contention.

Out of what division 205?, i know he's discussed going to heavyweight but i think that would only be one or two fights out of the 9 that his manager said he has left

Nobody is giving Vera' date=' a man that defeated Frank Mir.... This guy is much more legit than he's given credit for.[/quote']

I respect the support you give vera, I lost pesos' on him 3 times,

my wife is filipina & I live in the philippines so I'm catchin' it now .. she's cussin' me in her native tongue ... :(

Matt Hamill and Brandon Vera was deemed to be a legitimate match between 2 fighters ready to move into title contention. The fight didn't happen due to injury, Hamill fought Jones instead, and a DQ was the only thing that stopped Hamill suffering the worst beatdown in his career to date, so I'd say is Vera ready for Jones?

Vera is legit' date=' it's just Jones is legiterer. :)[/quote']

We shall see... I wonder how many people will jump on Vera's train if he wins? We'll know if he does.

Jon Jones had only fought cans in the UFC, and Vera has fought some of the best... Experience has Vera winning, and hype has Jones winning...

If Jones can win, it will be very good for him.
