Gamer_Ely
If a champ doesn't make weight then he can't put the title on the line.... does this seem wrong to everybody else? I mean, if you're fighting a guy you can't beat, just eat a lot before the weigh ins, gain 5 pounds, then keep your title if you lose. What are your thoughts? Should a champ be auto stripped if he doesn't make weight? I mean you are the champ you're supposed to be able to defend your title it seems right? However if the champion misses weight then I believe the belt should still be on the line but the other way round it should be non-title such as Lutter-Silva. Juzie
I think that if the champ doesn't make weight, he should be stripped regardless of whether he wins or loses. Unless there is a very good reason not to make weight. I am not actually sure what would happen though.
degowop
i agree because they would do that as a cop out i dont think ive ever seen a champ not make weight Paulo Filho was WEC's middleweight champ and was set to defend his title in a re-match against Chael Sonnen...and Filho didnt make weight. The fight was then declared a non-title fight and Sonnen destroyed Filho but wasnt awarded the title.

Came in 5 pounds over and out of shape. Was not looking at Sonnen and was talking to himself. This was a very strange fight. But to your question it's not right. If a champion doesn't make weight it shows a lack of respect for the title.

I think anyone who does it deliberately should be banned from UFC. But proving a fighter deliberately did this to avoid losing his title would be hard to prove. I do think the title should still be on line regardless.

Gamer_Ely
Actually the Filho fight was exactly what sparked my thoughts. I've never seen a UFC champ not make weight. But it looks like everybody does agree that if they cant have the professionalism to make their weight they just don't deserve to defend it in the first place. I understand that making weight can be a very difficult thing to do, but that's just one thing that sets a champion apart from the rest. Haha and I remember Mir, "what does he keep looking at?!" that was one of the funniest commentary lines ever
george_gonzales
I agree should be stripped or the othe fighter should be asked if they still want to fight for the title, and a portion of the champs purse win or lose.
Die_Manic
I do think the title should still be on line regardless. So Brock can fight at 300lbs? Isnt that why they have a 265lb limit? A Silva can defend his 185lb title at 205lbs? Come on dude. Think before typing.
Whatevurb99
i think in this situation the title should be stripped from the champ, and if the challenger wins the fight he should be given the belt, or the interim championship at least, just to make him some kind of champ. i know it would suck to have an interim champ and no actual champ, but the person deserves the title a little at least, but he shouldn't be considered a real champ until he defends it against someone who is takin the sport seriously. also, if the "champ" wins by decision then the challenger should get an instant rematch. but if he finishes the challenger then its up to the fans or the organization. if the "champ" wins then he gets a chance to earn the title back from either the challenger, or the next number 1 contender. i have thought about this since the WEC got rid of the middleweight division. i just felt kinda bad for chael for not get the recognition as any kind of champ. he worked to get his title shot, then doesn't get it but still beats the champ, and then after the division was closed he had to work his way back up to fight for a belt in the UFC. i just think that is the only fair way to give credit, and punish those who deserve it. GoToGuy
i agree because they would do that as a cop out i dont think ive ever seen a champ not make weight Actually I saw this the other day in I believe it was a WEC fight where the champ didn't make weight and lost but still kept the title. That seems very wrong to me.
