blackknight
I hear about fighters making the adjustment from fighting in a ring to the cage and always hear people say it will probably be a problem. Im not a super experienced guy been training for a little over a year. Started a new gym last night and they have a cage, up until then I had only sparred in a boxing ring and my muay thai fight I done had been in a ring. But for me it was easier in the cage than in the ring. I found it easier to get off the cage than to get out of the corner of the ring. What are you guys thoughts on fighting in a ring vs a cage? Or better yet your experiences in a ring vs a cage?
UFCCagerattler
In boxing you can use the ropes a numnber of ways, but the cage seems to be pretty much unusable except as a way to box an opponent in. Im not quite sure why they don;t allow you to grab the cage in MMA. It seems silly. Its there, why not use it. I have often wondered if a guy had you in a guillotine and you climbed over the fence what would happen.

Kind of an unfair advantage.
KUTFO
If you are grabbing the cage and someone trie3s to take you down you can get hurt pretty bad even possible rip a finger right off so IMO its a safety precaution.
TrueGrit
I think the cage is better for MMA than the ring..I have had two fights and both bein in a ring..We had to be re positioned in the middle of the ring..I just hate the repositioning part cause if you were in a cage that wouldnt be a problem.. Yea I can imagine the repostioning would be pain. My first fight is in April and is in a cage. I was even alot more comfortable with the standup in the cage just seemed more natural for me. undisputed_rush
cages are much better for wrestlers, they can use the cage to press opponents up against it and there are less stand ups

MMA_Spawn
Ring fights become tedious to watch, as certain fighters now that if they place their body outside the ropes they will be repositioned and have a greater chance of scrambling or obtaining an advantageous postion. Plus, I often times see fighters hooking their arms and holding the ropes out of view of the referee to hold someone in position or guys grabbing the ropes to avoid being slammed/taken down. The flow of fights is much slower when in a ring due to repositioning of fighters. Plus, I think it's less safe, as fighters have fallen between the ropes and onto tables or the floor. There is no doubt an advantage for grapplers to clinch against the cage, push fighters off the cage for momentum to take them down, and to ground and pound them. Plus, the cage can be used to wall-walk up after being taken down or to avoid someone getting their hooks in for a submission.
Ares9139
Cage all day for MMA, it just doesn't work as well in a ring, the cage is perfect.

freddievanhalen3
i always thought it was hilarious in pride when they would try to push the fighter back it.. but they were always tiny Asian people that couldn't move the fighters even if they wanted to
