265 weight limit is crap. (can I say "crap"?)

I don't think either of those two are good enough real fighters to be a factor in the UFC.

And look at that giant Korean dude (Choi?), he's at least as big as big show and Kali and he certainly wasn't dominant by any means.

I say add another weight class for the low to mid 200lbers, and then have an open division for "heavyweights".

Why should being too big disqualify you from the UFC or any other combat sport?

its not a bad idea. ive heard alot of fans call for a SHW or cruiserweight class. maybe a class at 230 and then open class or top it out at 300? its not a bad idea, but the HW's tend to be a "weaker" division anyway. i guess talent isn't common among big dudes? so filled out 2 divisions with the talent of the weakest division would be tough

this idea will never take off unless someone with some power gets behind it. like a state commissioner, promoter or judges.

People complain so heartily with current heavy weights doing the "lay and pray"....what do you think is gonna happen if you start letting huge super heavy guys in? They won't be able to maintain but a certain level of athleticism (not every 320 pounder can be super athletic like Broc or Shaq or Demarcus Ware) and will gas quickly. They will then use their superior size and strength to lay on top of a dude and try to either steal a round or get a TKO stoppage with strikes. Look at alot of the superheavy vs superheavy fights from the old days in Japan, that's what happened. I think this is one of the chief reasons the UFC hasn't done it. It's also the chief reason I am opposed to it. If I wanna see a bunch of huge guys lay on each other and try to smother their way to victory, I can go to a local "tuff man" contest and at least get a cheap beer to go along with it.

Just my humble opinion.

I don't think they should add a 230 lb weight class. Guys should just suck it up and lose 20 pounds, or gain 20 pounds. Neither is THAT hard to do as long as you do it the right way.

If they do anything, it will be add a 265+ weight class with no ceiling. This will make for some snooze fest fights were guys gas after 45 seconds and hug each other.

Bottom line is, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

Obviously it is broke else so many people would not keep bringing it up. There could be alot of younger "Brock type prospects" out there in High schools and colleges that weigh 300+ that can't or don't want to make the cut to 265, but would still put on an exiting fight without gasing. But they do not pursue MMA because of the weight limit, so there might not be an immediate result, but who knows in 5 years it might be huge!!!:)

The only way to do this would be a super heavy division of 265+, I do believe that the heavyiest division shouldnt have a weight limit, but it would have to be seperate.

You wouldnt want to be fighting a guy 70lbs+ heavy than you, coz like people said before.. they would just lay on you! B-O-R-I-N-G!!

i want to see a 230 or 235 class, althought the talent isnt there it would come, you would have smaller hw's like cain and larger lh's moving into the class, i think it would actually be quite an excieting division, then push the upper end of HW to 285 or what ever it may be.

Let's put aside the fact that SHW would be boring. I think most people can agree on that.

Fighters are "tough" guys. If you are Cain Velasquez, you could easily move down to 205, but there is a reason you don't. You want to prove that you're are hands down the best in the world, or at least are capable enough to fight anyone. You're not looking to hide behind a weight class.

Don't confuse this with a slam on lighter weight classes. I respect them, and as a boxer I know that I have more success as a cruiserweight. I tried 200+ and I do well with fat guys, but not serious athletes. They knock me out. Not everyone can fight big.

What is the point of the 265 weight limit?

Why not let "heavy weights" fight at what ever weight they want to?

You still have tremendous versatility of styles in the HW division with the 265 limit. Styles make great matchups and therefore make great matches. If you eliminate the weight limit, I think you'd see the HW division limit it's array of styles down to the point where it doesn't even feel like mixed martial arts anymore.

i like the 265 limit but if they throw in like a 235 limit for heavy then maybe they can do a 300 or 320super heavy ' date=', but then again they dont have enough heavys as it is so whats the point[/quote']

yeah but i think adding some of these freakshow fights once in a while would still get a bit extra ppv buys for the ufc. im pretty sure alot of casual mma fans might decide to buy a ppv if they say bob sapp on the card (and i dont mean i want him in the ufc, but its still fun to see him get his *** kicked of people half his size)
