Juzie
I think that GSP has definately surpassed Matt Hughes. You only think that because he is the current champ, when we take a look at things in 10 years when both are done is when we can truly compare. Vaseline
Yes?... and being the current champ gives you a tonne of hype, Anderson is the best ever MW too according to some people. In reality the only other WW who can possibly be compared to GSP is Matt Hughes. The way GSP has been dominating, if he keeps it up, then he will surpass Hughes. Dan Henderson.... Well excuse the people when they saw Henderson tap out to Silva. Somehow losing like that to someone who is considered the greatest MW will not likely put you into that contention. Juzie
And Rampage KO'd Wanderlei so he must be a better champion than Wanderlei. People think differently of them once they lose their belt.
Vaseline
And Rampage KO'd Wanderlei so he must be a better champion than Wanderlei. Neither are champion People complain hes not the "Silva of Pride" It appears that the "pride" Silva was a historic fighter, but the one now is just some mediocre fighter. Dan Henderson fought Silva when he was still considered a top fighter, which he still is. Henderson has more fights, and more belts under his name. But Silva's reputation will earn him more credit than Hendersons record did.

He needs to have more fights but in Silva's case, if he were to retire tomorrow, I think he would still go down as the greatest MW, arguably, though Henderson wont be too far behind

Somehow losing like that to someone who is considered the greatest MW will not likely put you into that contention. the fact that Hendo lost to Anderson doesn't influence my opinion of Anderson as the #1 MW of all time, its just that i think Anderson is an all around better fighter and has achieved as much if not more than Hendo. And if you beat someone it does technically make you a better fighter, i do think Hendo has the best chance of beating Anderson.

ssexton7
As great and accomplished as Hughes was, I would have to say GSP because he is dominating everyone, and shows no signs of stopping for a long long time.

guti
I voted for gsp just because i think he is more well rounded than matt hugues... However hugues defended his title 5 consecutive times ( the second time he won it) and he also managed to defend his title 5 times the first time he won it In the other hand gsp have only defended his title 3 times .... I m pretty sure if gsp continues in the ww he may eventually become the best ww of all time I should of voted for hughes i guess LOL

guti
dont even compare silva , he has defended his title 6 times which pretty much beat matt hugues record.. Gsp hasnt reach anderson's or matt hugues record yet .. Pretty sure he ll reach them if he keeps getting fighters like dan hardy.. Then again he pretty much beat the top fighters in the ww division

They were on their way to becoming the best. GSP's last loss (which was to Serra) was in 2007. He has greatly improved since then.

Kristufa
I think GSP needs a few more matches to be considered greater than Matt Hughes. Of course, skill wise, it's a NC. GSP all the way.
TheTerribleWilliamson
I think GSP is fighting far higher caliber opponents than Hughes was fighting during his reign and still completely dominating them. I think that alone is reason enough to argue that he's surpassed Hughes as the best welterweight thus far.
