Other Pro Wrestlers in MMA

Shawn Staziak tried and got his **** handed to him, so you can say not all Pro Wrestlers would do well in MMA, but who would you like to have seen in 'real' fighting#?

Bill Goldberg

Glen Jacobs (Kane)

Scott 'BamBam 'Bigelow

Big Van Vader (I think he might have had some MMA fights but not 100% sure)

Steve Blackman

Bret Hart (in his day I think his wrestling would have did him well)

Owen Hart

Chris Benoit

Would all IMO have had potential in some form or other.

Goldberg maybe, the guy is freakishly strong

Glen Jacobs, No.

Dunno the rest

the Hart brothers might stand a chance, they came from a genuine wrestling submission family

Benoit and Kurt Angle have incredible wrestling that would work in their favour

To be honest i think the only guys who really may have stood a chance would be Kurt Angle' date=' Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin through their genuine wrestling abilities.[/quote']

Ah yes I was going to mention Angle but forgot. If I remember right he was in talks with Dana for a bit, but could not agree to give up wrestling full time.

Didn't Sean O'Haire compete in MMA?

I think Triple H would do well in MMA

as long as his Father-in-law bought the promotion first!

Sean O'Haire didn't do great, he lost to a few people and beat a few cans, he got knocked out 3 times in a row in kickboxing before giving up.

Yeah' date=' I was sort of making a hypothetical/fantasy suggestion type list based on wrestlers abilities/reputations. Did not really take into consideration Benoits demise.[/quote']

Ahh in that case, assuming Roid Rage never hit him, then yes.

His wrestling background would give him a retty good start in MMA.

I know Goldberg was involved somehow with EliteXc' date=' does anyone know how much? I think he may have been training with Bas Rutten the same time as Kimbo, but IDK why that is in my head. Either way, he would be able to adapt well to the sport.[/quote']

On July 22, 2006, Goldberg served as color commentator in mixed martial arts promotion World Fighting Alliance (WFA) King of the Streets pay-per-view in Los Angeles, California.

Goldberg became a color commentator for the EliteXC Mixed martial arts organization during their inaugural event. The event, EliteXC Destiny, was broadcast live on Showtime, on February 10, 2007. He has continued in this role through all of EliteXC's showcase and combined cards, including Dynamite!! USA, Strikeforce Shamrock vs. Baroni, EliteXC: Renegade, and EliteXC: Street Certified.

When asked whether he was interested in becoming a mixed martial artist, Goldberg stated, "I'd love to, especially if I was 21 or even 29, but these guys are so far ahead of me in terms of experience. I never say never, though. But I don?t see myself stopping my movies, my shows, my commentating, or being a dad to do that".

Goldberg is also the Vice President of Public Relations for World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA), an organization intended to provide universal rankings for fighters and organize cross-promotional title fights and defenses.

With Brett Hart's submission wrestling background taught by Stu Hart, I would definatlly give him a chance.

Definalty think Goldberg could do this. He's been out of the wrestling game for a while so IF he's still in shape, he should have any roids or HGH out of his system by now. I always thought he was holding himself back too much in the WWE and WCW. He just looked and acted like he wanted to really hurt someone

Stu Hart may have done some genuine shootfighting and catch wrestling when he was young, but what he taught his sons, Benoit, Malenko, Jericho, and all the rest of those performers is the watered down wrassling version. I have serious doubts any one of them would last a second in an MMA fight. Had they had the real training from the beginning, they were all athletic enough to be decent, but there is a big difference between genuine fighting and even that form of pro wrasslin.

Had Kurt Angle gone directly from the Olympics to MMA training he could have been a force at LHW, but not anymore. And apparently there are a few younger guys with big amatuer wrestling backgrounds, and one is apparently a friend and former college teammate of Brock. but I have no clue who they are really.

Waaaay back in the day,. I'm talking late 70's early 80's, there was this dude named Bruiser Brodie, at least that was his wrasslin name. But he, and another old schooller named Terry Gordy made the rounds, and earned a reputation on the underground NHB circuit and in South America and Asia. I believe the character in Bloodsport played by Ogre is based on Brodie. Anyway his reputation for beating people up badly in South America got him stabbed in the locker room in Brazil at what was supposed to be a "wrasslin" event. He was a bada$$.

I haven't watched pro-wrestling for years, as it got to the point where athleticism was less of a factor, and was being replaced with how high a balcony you could fall of, and if you could swing a chair. Although he would have probably peaked before MMA started to grow in popularity, Bob Backlund was, as I recall, a good wrestler, but wether or not he would have been able to compete in MMA is another matter.
