slack_415 Posted February 7, 2010 Report Share Posted February 7, 2010 The Ultimate Fighting Championship handed out $60,000 bonus checks for UFC 109 performances at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday. Earning the bonuses were: Matt Serra, Paulo Thiago, Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt. Fight of the Night honors went to the middleweight top contender?s bout between Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen. Sonnen dominated the better part of the fight with superior wresting, although Marquardt came on in the final round but came up short on the judges? scorecards. The Knockout of the Night went to former UFC welterweight titleholder Matt Serra who caught Frank Trigg with a right hand, sending him to the canvas and finishing the former MMAWeekly Radio co-host with strikes on the ground half way through the first round. Submission of the Night went to Paulo Thiago's choke out of Mike Swick. It was a close first round, but a counter punch in the second round sent Swick down where the Brazilian was able to finish with a choke. Total bonus money paid out for UFC 109 was $240,000.
