Demian Maia will rise.

Demian Maia is obviously completely forgotten to some. I guess that since Marquardt "demolished" Maia means that he's a nobody, but guys, look at reality... Have you ever watched the Marquardt vs. Maia fight? Marquardt got a fortunate first punch KO, and any knowledgeable MMA fan knows that's a fluke, but die-hard Marquardt fans will not admit it, even though it is completely true.

How many of you know that Demian Maia defeated Chael Sonnen, and did so not too long ago? I think Demian Maia is being seriously underrated right now, and it's really stupid for people to do that. He was undefeated until Marquardt's lucky punch screwed his record over. Take away that freak accident fist in the face, Maia is still undefeated.

A Marquardt vs. Maia rematch is nigh, I guarantee it, and this time, things will look a whole lot different. Maia will destroy Marquardt, and you Marquardt huggers can flame me all you freaking want, but it will come to pass when they fight again. Aside from Anderson Silva, I believe that Maia, although unrecognized and flying under the radar at this time, is the best fighter in the Middleweight Division.

I also noticed that Maia's striking has improved in leaps and bounds lately as well, so now he has very good striking to back up his phenomenal ground game. I think he may even be a threat to Anderson Silva now, but it was one lucky punch that made everyone think he's a nobody. Demian Maia will rise, and you shall all see.

I can agree that he is a lot better and that he is very underrated. And a rematch would indeed look very different, but I dont know which way it will go.

But he is not a threat to Silva. His striking is getting better, but I wouldnt say it was that good to pose a threat to any stand up fighter in his division.

Maia would absolutely dominate marq, it wouldnt go to the ground? if you truely beleive that your insane, Maia can pull guard and submit anyone from there, he has done it alot, Maia's striking has improved a hell of alot and that was just between UFC 102-109, wait until he starts using his improved striking to get takedown's...Maia probally wont be silva, no one will at MW but once Silva leaves MW, it's time for Maia to "Rise"

WAR MAIA!!

agree. Maia is a future #1 contender at the least. Marquart is garbage and Sonnen is garbage . Maia would sumbit Sonnen in 5 seconds after it hit the ground. If marquart knew how to submit someone he would of easily won agaionst Sonnen. But Anderson Silva would wreck everyone at the same time most likely.lol but Maia is next best in my opinion.

Marquadt would wreck Maia' date=' it would never reach the ground, unless you count Maia's face hitting the mat.[/quote']

Feel free to explain? Sonnen wrecked Marquardt on the mat, and Maia wrecked Sonnen... The only reason Marquardt won was a lucky first punch... Maia would humiliate Marquardt in a rematch, and we all know Maia is already better than Sonnen.

I think Maia should get a title shot, to be honest. He destroyed Sonnen, and Marquardt got a lucky punch--that shouldn't effect anything, especially now that Sonnen proved to us all that Marquardt is quite overrated.

I still like Marquardt, but he's getting too much credit.

Yeah, his ground game is so scary that his stand up would have great success... People will always be tentative and worried about the takedown, and he could be punching the guy, and when he gets ballsy enough to strike back, Demian Maia would bring it to his dimension.

I think I need to put Maia on my favorite fighters list before he beats Marquardt, because how dare I bandwagon!!?

Demian Maia will be the next MW champion, once (A.) He beats Anderson, which I think is slightly plausible, or (B.) Anderson leaves the belt to defend the belt that he will have at the LHW.

You don't have any idea of what you're talking about. Marquardt won most of his fights by submission and has an AMAZING record. Sonnen may be a one trick pony but he's damn good at that one trick.

You're using MMA math. Stop that.

The reason Sonnen wrecked Marquardt is that he could take him down and hold posture at will. Maia can grapple but he will never take down Nate the Great. And once the fight stays standing Maia will get KTFO'd again, call that a "lucky punch" all you want (a bullsh*t excuse as is) but you can't ignore three fight streak where he finished his opponent. One of whom was Damien Maia.

And don't go back to that he'll pull guard crap, we saw how well that worked for Leites.

That was not a lucky punch. It just showed his extreme lack of stand-up and Marquarts well rounded-ness.

I think Maia is awesome. He is one of my favorite fighters to watch, except for his last fight with Miller, that was embarassing. He needs more time to work on his stand-up and i'm talking years before he should step in the ring with Anderson. He needs to be able to protect himself and find a way to work it to the ground. A rematch with Marquart might look differently with improved stand-up and I would expect a submission.

Marquart is one of the best fighters in the UFC. Don't disrespect his skills because he lost a grind-out war to Sonnen, who looked better than we have ever seen him. The guy is all heart and will come back with a better ground-game which will be even scarier. Maia is up there with those guys.

The way I see it. Maia wont be able to beat either Marquart or Anderson. He will most likely always beat Sonnen.

Sonnen can beat Marquart and possibly Anderson. I will actually have money on Sonnen for the title shot.
