Was Jones Great or Vera Horrible ?

Im not really sure which it is, Vera just doesnt show up sometimes, after being taken down he looked timid to me. I;m not sure if he was injured from that elbow but it made him fold. I hope he isnt injured but it would make sense and save some pride because he clammed up after that.

 

Or is Jones ground and pound really that impressive? He showed good takedowns and controlled Vera. That was a nasty elbow he threw.

IMO Bones was great however as said in commentary he was leaving his arms out and a better BJJ player could possibly have made him pay.

 

I do not recall seeing a more dangerous or viscious G&Pder than jones, in particular when he postures up.

Vera was defo hurt with that elbow, ive heard broken socket / orbital, that elbow would have made hercules wince

Dana is going to keep feeding him people that the UFC wants off their roster until Jones is ready for a step up in competition. He is going to be the equivalent of the blades in a garbage disposal.

 

Not sure he can catch up to Lyoto or handle punishing MT. The only thing everyone should look at and know for sure...........don't try to wrestle this kid.

I actually think Vera thought Jones was standing when he hit him with that up kick. Jones has a crazy reach.

Jones lived up to the hype, I was calling Vera, and I was wrong.

 

Vera never got a chance to even get going. Couture couldn't take down (except for once for a second) Vera in 3 rounds. Jones did it twice and kept him down the 2nd time. I thought that would be the place Vera had the real advantage (BJJ in full guard) He never tried to grab an arm or do much, but he was doing a good job of nullifying Jones.... until that elbow.

 

Jones has outwrestled O'Brien, Hamill, and Vera now, stopping all of them (even the Maz. DQ "loss" he still stopped Hamill). Yet he has great striking as well, and that reach advantage.

 

I think Jones is too big for A.Silva, he would get through his strikes and take him down with ease, from their I don't think the bjj would matter. Jones is really undefeated in the UFC everyone knows it, so I think a #1 contender fight should be his next one.

A. Silva is the MW champ...he should definitly stay in his weight class now, their are plenty of great challenges of true 205ers for Jones.

But Silva is a lion in his prime, Jones would be a meal before he was competition. Silva has the striking, scrambles, and a MT stiffling clinch. There's nothing Jones has for an answer to that save for trying a Judo throw he just read a paragraph on.

Jone's wrestling is what I've been most impressed with... how can you argue that if he got a hold of A. Silva he couldn't take him down (or throw, or slam) with his height and reach, I don't see Silva doing anything in the clinch, just like Vera couldn't. Jones is a huge 205lber much larger than A. Jones has given proof of how easy it is to get into his head.

 

Silva has a demoralizing fighting style. Jones is going to get faster, stronger and heavier. But he needs to grow mentally as well.

Jones was just that good last night. He was fully aware he was leaving his arm out because he was baiting Vera. Each time Vera wouldve had a sucessful arm bar he stopped it but when he felt he had control of Veras hips he landed the elbow that ended it.
