2pac
If Hardy or anyone else in the WW division was to beat GSP; how would it happen? Everyone says that standing and catching him with a good clean punch is the best way to do it, which is probably true. I also think that a BJJ expert can sub him on the ground, I know BJ had his chances on the ground but someone like maia. Anyway let me hear your thoughts! It would take a good striker and one that could defend his take downs and keep it standing.
TrebleSeven
hahaha! Apart from that^^^ I think the only way is to knock him out. Can't see anyone touching his ground game.

Yeah I agree, it would be hard to beat him on the ground. Sonnen is a very good wrestler but when he faces someone with good BJJ he always seems to get caught in a sub, so do you think that could happen to gsp? Megasoup
Eventually he's going to have an octagon related injury like a torn ACL or getting clipped in the eye a la Couture-Belfort II. That's how he'll lose.

Sonnen is a very good wrestler but when he faces someone with good BJJ he always seems to get caught in a sub, so do you think that could happen to gsp?[/quote'] It's possible, but GSP is a great BJJ practitioner as well. He trains a lot with Renzo Gracie and he has said he is at expert level now. GSP is a perfectionist and i'm sure his BJJ is very technical. A guy like Maia though, a world class grappler would give him problems on the ground and may even submit him. I think it will take a very technical striker with a reach advantage to beat him. But even that isn't a sure thing.

badgerpit
I think Mr. Matt Serra came up with the only real game plan to sucessfully defeat GSP. A random, lucky, once in a lifetime clip on the chin.
thesoulpower
GSP always manages to beat everyone I thought Alves was gunna finish him off. BJ Penn only fighter who can beat him if you ask me and if they fight again I think BJ will win. Also I think a better wrestler than GSP(not likely to find one) could beat him use GSP's technique of GNP against him.
berghausen
Well you will all see the perfect way to beat him when Hardy gets the TKO in the 2nd round on saturday.
uaquin
Its hard to say outside the ever popular "lucky punch" scenario. GSP has better striking than any other grappler in the division and way better grappling than any other striker. There are only two real ways I see him getting beat. 1st by a vintage Chuck Liddell type fighter. A guy with a wrestling back ground and great sprawl that can keep the fight standing and try and win a decision on the feet. Second would be a BJJ specialist that is world class off his back. Even then though, GSP would probably keep it standing. Right now the one guy that I think will be a real threat to GSP down the road is Paulo Thiago. Well, if BJ is the only person to get the job done, and BJ just got his butt handed to him by GSP not too long ago, I suppose his crown is safe for a long time. As far as finding a better wrestler, where are you going to find that? He is already being considered for the Olympics as a Canadian representative. And even if you do find an equivelent wrestler, they are bound to neutralize each other in combat. I mentioned a lucky punch as an only option earlier, but if I were to pick a style to be succesful, I would say a good clinch fighter (muay thai) with awesome takedown defense. a smaller version of Shogun maybe. PhantomX88
Yeh i would say a good striker and take down defence expert or maybe Silva should just cut to 170 and smash'em even though he would probably look like a toothpick with a grape for a head LOL

I would like to see gsp fight a Chuck type of fighter, that would be interesting! Someone that would use wrestling to keep the fight standing but their is no one in the WW division capable of this. The division is filled with good wrestlers but none have been able to stay off their back with gsp. I think Maia vs GSP would be a good one but then again gsp would probably keep him standing and use his kickboxing. It's going to be interesting to see how the Hardy fight goes but after that if gsp wins; who's next in line? I don't wanna see Kos cause I don't think he has what it takes. So who else? yndev1
Only one who could challenge him at WW would be Paulo. Can't see Kos winning GSP because GSP has better wrestling than Kos,Better bjj than Kos and Better striking than Kos. So what is left for kos...umm.... hair style?
