caveman2
Now....I have seen about 5 threads saying, or should I say, whining about his "Lay and Pray" Well, what happened to the "better striker"? Granted this fight was mainly on the ground, I do remember seeing GSP do a jab, cross and connect it, then jab again, all three landing precisely. So once again, the "better striker" (Alves, Hardy) got out striked. Interesting don't you think? GSP landed more on the feet, and Hardy couldn't stop it. Yes, props to Hardy though for having too big of an ego, those submission attempts looked painful.

caveman2
True, but still, Hardy couldn't do anything on the feet even when they were on them.
TipTopMma
I was dissapointed with dan he didnt throw anything because he knew if he did he would get taken down all the time.
K2Yeti
hardy is a counter puncher or maybe that's just an excuse for being slow to get the first punch. either way, hardy couldn't counter anything. everytime gsp connected there's nothing for hardy to counter b/c gsp is either back to a save distance or already planting hardy's butt on the floor. the more i think abt it the more i feel sorry for hardy now. the dude never had a chance. all those weeks spent training but couldn't get a meaningful punch. _HIT_EM_UP_
All those weeks training and couldnt get a meaningful punch? you could be talking about both fighters.. GSP doesn't have to rely on his striking like Hardy does. Although Dan had some nice submission defense, he had no take down defense what so ever. MMAEars
Hardy may need to rethink his handlers. That was a really crap game plan.
DosSantosFutureP4P
i know i wish more people thought about it this way. we haven't seen GSP stand since BJ maybe Fitch not sure which was later. people have short memories. it's not like GSP's stand up is equal to Kongo's ground game he is the best well rounded in the UFC right now if not the world

Ryno0108
That's a bit of a stretch IMO. There was nowhere near enough stand up to make any decision about who the better striker is(was) +1.. also hardy didn't have a bad game plan.. He could spend all his training working on take down defence, but come fight night he's still gonna get taken down.. GSP"s takedowns can't be stopped.. He focused more on his ground game which wasn't a bad idea.. However I must say I was very dissapointed with GSP's performance.. Hardy was probably GSP's least talented opponent and should have taken this as an opportunity to make a statement for all the heat he gets about not finishing fights.. But didnt.. Dmtl
Apart from taking Hardy down what did GSP do? Once again he beat Hardy is every facet of the fight what little they did stand GSP threw and landed more shots. What happened to Hardy not being scared of GSP and throwing punches? By the 3rd round you knew Hardy's confidence was gone and that he was broken.
JHenry
Dont foll yourself into thinking GSP was about to outstrike hardy. He hit flush with a shot and hardy stood there with his hands down. Had it truly hurt hardy at all he wouldve stood with his guard up and smiled but dropping your hands completly showed he was in no way hurt by that punch. Aside from that what little striking there was i believe hardy came out on top
Tok
Unless I'm completely mistaken, every round starts with the fighters standing. That gave at least 5 opportunities for Hardy "the striking specialist" to take advantage of his plan. If he cant take advantage of those opportunities you have to give props to the better gameplan and the better fighter. GSP did outstrike Hardy. There wasnt a lot of it but what there was, definately favoured the champ.
