A welterweight bout destined for fireworks is now official for the UFC's first trip to Boston.

The promotion today confirmed Marcus Davis (17-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) vs. Nate Diaz (12-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC) for the pay-per-view portion of UFC 118, which takes place Aug. 28 at Boston's TD Garden. A lightweight title rematch between newly crowned champion Frankie Edgar and the recently deposed B.J. Penn headlines.

Diaz is expected to be in the clear with the Tennessee Athletic Commission in time to make the fight.

The TAC targeted the fighter and four others for sanctions as a result of an ugly in-cage brawl that erupted after Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields defended his title with a win over Dan Henderson in the main event of April's CBS-broadcast "Strikeforce: Nashville" event.

Four of the fighters - Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Jason Miller, and Diaz's older brother, Nick Diaz - faced fines and suspensions. However, because Nate Diaz does not carry a fight license in Tennessee, he cannot be suspended; instead, he is required to pay a $7,500 fine to clear his name.

Cesar Gracie, Nate Diaz's manager and trainer, said the fighter intends to pay the penalty prior to the Aug. 28 fight.

Diaz, 25, announced his move to welterweight with an emphatic win over Rory Markham at UFC 111 in March. After serving the bulk of his career at lightweight, he recently told MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) he had little desire to continue fighting in the division unless the UFC made it worth his while.

Diaz's decision was prompted in part by a decision loss to Gray Maynard in January that may have cost him a contender spot in the 155-pound division.

Following his winning run on "The Ultimate Fighter 5," Diaz racked up four consecutive victories before he lost two hotly contested decisions to division standouts Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Davis is fresh off a victory against Jonathan Goulet at this past Saturday's UFC 113 event. The May 8 win reversed a two-fight slide to division standouts Mike Swick and Ben Saunders and bought some job security.

Diaz is the man fool, great matchup man I'm really excited for this fight. Gonna have to give it to Diaz, if this guy can get it to the ground my prediction would be a 2nd round submission. But, I could also see Diaz beating Davis around pretty good standing up as well, hell of a bout.
