Im looking into buying a certified used car but really dont know too much about them so I was looking for some suggestions. I was thinking of a 2008 vehicle which is reliable and good on gas.

Get one that the seats lay back for the chicks...LOL

Germans, Classy and realiable but they are worst value cars out there.

Americans, Big and optioned but be on good terms with your mechanic and petrol station attendant.

Japan, Small but reliable.

Italians, You?ll love it more than any other car you have or will ever own but you will hate it more than any car you will ever own. Learn your bus routes.

Korea, ?Oh you drive one of them? but the value and workmanship is considerable, not for the show ponies.

Australia, They make cars???

English, Mortgage the house and sell that spare kidney.

India, Who knows they could be great cars but I have my pride.

Honestly with the current crop of cars around you just can?t beat the Asians.

Oh and never buy the first of its generation, the 2nd release will always have much less issues.

When going 2nd hand warrantly means little, full check by a proper and trusted mechanic means a lot. I have had 3 cars checked out and paid 200 to the mech each time ($600), as a result of these inspections I have talked the seller down a further 2500 total.

A $1000 option when new lifts the 2nd hand price by about $300.

Don't but a car without log books unless it is 30% cheaper than similar cars with log books.

Beserker,

Is that an evo or just a kit?

Best car i ever bought was a mitsubishi outlander. I beat this car to ****, it was 4WD and i got it stuck in ditches, drove it 140,000 miles, never did any maintenance, never took care of it and 6 years and all those miles later its still going strong when i use it.

The mileage isnt great. In city i get 15MPG with it. Highway with midgrade i get about 25MPG.

But the car is comfortable, reliable and its a beast when it comes to repairs. 140,000 miles and i replaced the breaks once. Thats the only major maintenance it has ever needed. So if your looking for a good family SUV i recommend the outlander.

I'm assuming you're in the US; when I was over a month or two ago, I rented a Dodge Calibre and was impressed - good on fuel, well equipped and good space engineering. Looked pretty nice too, and watching the advertisements on local tv it seems you can pick them up used at a pretty good price. Plus, if any large rental company uses a car they tend to be pretty reliable and cheap to maintain.

If you are in the US and need a reliable place to buy: http://www.carmax.com . They only sell used, so their rep is on the line. They also sell really close to Blue Book, so there is no negotiatiating, You can search their entire inventory across the country online, price/options/milage/comparisons, and have it shipped cheaply. You can shop from home and not even bother going in until you find the exact car you want to test drive. They will even have the local dealership look at specific things for you: like if you want to know if a model has with either the electrical outlet or lighter, or a particular smell, they will check.

I still drive an "03 Expedition that I found online in '05 from Carmax, and I will be buying my next car there too. You can buy an extended warranty, but you may still get a factory warranty on some 08's with lower miles. 2 years out is great since you pay a better price, not the new car markup.
