Frankie Edgar? The Truth

Written by: britishranger

UFC 112 Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn a fight that was supposed to be a formality for the Champion, Penn, and no one thought Edgar had a hope in hell of beating the greatest lightweight in the history of the sport. In fact there were a lot of people claiming that Edgar had no right to be in the same ring as Penn and that BJ would probably not let Edgar see the championship rounds by finishing him inside of the first three rounds..

However this is MMA, the sport we love, the sport in which anything can happen and happen it did. Twenty-five minutes after the opening bell it was the challenger Edgars hand that was raised in victory after...

Twenty-five minutes after the opening bell it was the challenger Edgar’s hand that was raised in victory after a very close battle in which the two stood and boxed, hardly throwing kicks and Edgar only going for about 4 takedowns of which he got two and BJ stuffed the other two.

Lol? What fight was this guy watching.. I could have swore Frankie went for atleast 10 takedown attempts(13 according to fightmetric) and that he landed ONE of them. If you want to count that 'takedown' in the 2nd round you would be wrong, because he couldn't even secure an advantageous position.

Theres a big difference between having a 50% takedown percentage while going 2 out of 4 and having a .08% takedown percentage while going 1 out of 13. I mean it's bad enough people think Frankie Edgar outstruck BJ, because he was outstruck in 3 out of 5 rounds, but the fact that people think Frankie's takedown was some annointment to greatness just because BJ hadn't been taken down in so long.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not here to debate that first fight because it's a waste of my breath and yours. It's been talked about to death and most of the time the arguments just go in circles. Instead, we can wait for the rematch to see what happens and come back with new posts accordingly. All I'm saying is this article clearly seems to be favoring one party over the other, and if that's not the case then please check your facts and make sure you get that **** right.

thats because you are an idiot.

franky edgar clearly won that fight. also' date=' you cant win by defending take downs. bj barley threw a punch that connected and frankie edgar was engaging alot more then he was.[/quote']

Penn landed more strikes and harder strikes for 3 rounds while Frankie danced around him which means Penn had more effective striking and octagon control. 4th round they went even in strikes still Penn with octagon control, and the 5th it was all Frankie.

Frankie Edgar clearly lost that fight.

Your math skills are absolutely amazing. I like how you just went to your calculator, did 1 divided by 13, and decided Yep! That's the percentage!

And I couldn't stand to read anything past what was posted due to the terrible grammar and sentence structure. I mean I'm not going to complain about it in anyone's posts (for the most part) but you are trying to make a "news" site (or at least a site with legitimate articles).

Only BJ Penn haters will say Edgar "CLEARLY" won that fight. Its Bull ****.

Yeah it was close, most people thought BJ was winning 3 or 4 rounds to 1 or 2. And Its not like judges are known for being perfect either. But Edgar did work, and did enough to win in the judges eyes. Maybe not in many fan's eyes though.
