Getting worried about Randy vs Toney

I gotta say! at first when I heard that fight was scheduled I thought "omg Randy is such a good wrestler there's no way Toney is gonna do anything". <

And I kept thinking that.. Until I rewatched the Lesnar vs Carwin fight a couple times... I kept hearing Toney say that he would just KO anyone who shoots him cuz the guy has to close the distance and all.. And I thought he was delusionnal because we basically never see this happening..

But then when I watched Lesnar vs Carwin I noticed that the first time Lesnar shot Carwin's legs, Carwin clipped him heavily with a left hook.. And that really shook Lesnar.. And that kinda looked like that's actually what made him miss his TD in the first place.. So.. If Carwin, a guy who isn't close to be as good a boxer as Toney, can shake up Lesnar with a left hook while he shoots, I think it's very possible that Toney clips Randy when he shoots.. And I honnestly don't think that Randy's chin can handle as much abuse as Lesnar's....

thoughts?

Toney is a threat for sure. One punch could do it. You'll be a fool for thinking Toney has NO chance whatsoever. However, i stand firm in my belief that Couture, being the strategist that he is, will implement a sound game plan that will put Toney on his **** and put his "Lights Out".

Finally some honest people!!!..I'm tired of all the Toney bashing, this guy has a real chance on winning because sooner or later Randy will have to come to the inside. Lets face it....Couture is more well rounded...but standing... he has no chance at winning. All Toney has to do is clip him with those little gloves and Couture is gettin rawked or KO'd. No MMA fighter has ever felt the kind of power Toney has in his hands....heaven forbit he lands a clean solid punch anywhere on Coutures body..lights out if its his head for sure.

We all know both fighters are aged in one way or the other...I hope for a Couture win...cuz he is a icon and a great humble guy.....but dont discount Toney just cuz he has a big mouth....remember...he has backed up that mouth many many times with brutal KO's.

Couture by submission.!!

If this fight goes down like Lesner vs Carwin, there is no Rnd 2.

if Randy gets clipped by Toney while going for a TD its over, Lesner could prolly take that punch just cause of his size, but with couture's frame he won't be able to withstand that one punch

A Punch from Liddel and a Punch from Toney is totally different.

First Off, Weight difference will play a role in this.

And more importantly Toney is a pure bred boxer vs a Liddel who MMA striker.

Have you see any of Toney's Fights? He rolls perfectly of your shoulder when your in the pocket and boom there's the hook. Light's Out

Thats what i mean...so many people are bashing Toney....the guy is a great boxer......period..He has amazing skill and technique, his set ups are awsome and he is a PRO at counter punching and setting up....and if this fight stays on the feet.......he is gunna send Couture to the canvas like no-one has ever seen in MMA.......4 oz. gloves on a PRO boxer is like throwing gas on a fire....Couture has his hands full for sure...I sure hope couture wins cuz if he dont he is gettin hurt bad...Toney seems like the kinda guy that will want to make a statement in MMA..at the cost of the health of a fighter...but i guess thats fighting.

Randy isn't the kind of wrestler who just shoots blind. Yes, in a straight up boxing match, I don't think Randy stands a chance, but I think Randy's boxing is good enough that he can maneuver in the stand up environment without being immediately shut down. I don't see Randy getting pummeled on a slow clumsy shot. He's going to time a strike and immediately be in the process of dropping Toney on his back.

Yes but i cant rember the last time toney was trying to hit some one who was trying to take him down im just saying randy can take a punch,if he gets hit it will be in the clintch or while he is shooting an cant see toneys timeing being on while some ones shooting in on you totally diffrent trying to KO some one like that..

If this was a boxing match I would be more worried. Toney has to land one CLEAN shot for it to count. Randy is not a stranger to boxing. His boxing isn't even close to the caliber of Toney's, but he knows what to look for and how to move to get in for his shot. Really, all Randy has to do is keep Toney off balance and the punches will be less effective. I got Couture winning this one and being able to get this to the ground for some good old fashioned ground and pound. That being said, I won't count Toney out completely. He may land that one shot and get the win.

He could* take a punch.. from Chuck (he's also been demolished by Chuck twice). He can't anymore though, especially from heavyweights.

Like I've said in anticipation for Carwin vs Lesnar : Carwin doesn't have to be a better wrestler then Brock. He just has to be good enough to not be taken down.

Same sort of applies here. Except obviously Toney won't be hat good in the wrestling department, he only has to have enough skills to keep it standing. A wider stance then he's used to will be a big sign he's ready for the TD. We'll see come fight day.

Boxing isn't magic. MMA strikers are not miles below boxers in power. Toney isn't known as the most devastating knockout artist of all time. I'd say his shots are about as spicy as Chucks shots, although maby he can land them cleaner and faster. Toney is a really small heavyweight in the UFC too.

The biggest thing, in my opinion, is that Randy's chin isn't what is used to be, so I don't see him being the MMA guy who can take any shot Toney can throw and keep on coming. Put Cain Velasquez in and the fight would be really interesting...

True If toney can stop randys TD it could be lights out but not many have stoped his take downs i do beleave randy got brock to the ground ....I just think the fight is very hard to say toney will win maybe im wrong i have never boxed i spent Years beyond years in Kenpo and i have a hard time belaveing boxers hit harder style wise and the way they strike is diffrent yes but power not to sure about that, But then again i may be wrong

The way I see it is, Toney needs one punch, Couture needs one TD. Whoever gets it first wins, but who's the better strategic fighter?. Couture. Couture is a very smart fighter, he implements his gameplans to a T (don't get that expression), and you bet your **** he's not going in there to stand with Toney. Toney, on the other hand, seems a little slow haha. Couture defends MMA and sub's or TKO's Toney via GnP.

I agree. You need to set up takedowns with striking or you run the very real risk of eating a big shot. That also means it will have to stay standing longer.

I see the fight going all 3 rounds with the majority of the fight being controlled by Randy pressuring Toney into dirty boxing against the fence and possibly sweeping his feet for a takedown and pounding him out for a TKO in an open half guard somewhere in the 3rd round. If not then I still see Couture doing the same and getting a unanimous desicion.

Interesting fight..Randy always has great gameplans and I'm looking forward to seeing what he has planned for this fight. Who knows? Maybe Toney can make a run in mma...

the only thing that really makes me think the couture win is more likely is that history has told us that pure grapple usually beats the pure striker.. Hence, Gracie's victories over all those kung fu and boxing boyz. And the way the fight is polarized skillwise, Randy should have the advantage with his wrestling.

As soon as this was announced, I had Toney. Surely Couture can decimate him, and I've always said this fight is his to lose. But it's gonna be a nail biter when the ref says go......Couture cannot take a clean punch anymore, especially from somebody like Lights Out. But, if he gets it down instantly, I see no way Toney makes it out of the first.

I'm banking on Toney landing a big one early and ending it............I'm pumped for this one, let me tell ya.

randy does not wanna go on the fence to dirty box against a boxer..esp. toney.he has devistating power on the short inside shot..he rolls and hits quick and accurate.....not a good place for randy at all...he will get caught for sure if he tries that.my guess a roll and quick left hook...or upper cut will put him on the mat.........go watch some toney utube videos to see

I understand where you're coming from but you're thinking of the fight too one dimensionally. Sure Toney has tremendous boxing skills but what other skills have you seen him to have? Couture has great wrestling, great movement in the standup,a great clinch where his wrestling usually shows his dominance, and you never really have to question his cardio. On the other hand we really know nothing about Toney other than what we've seen from his boxing career. Yes he has had a very successful and impressive career in boxing but since when did mma become all about boxing? It hasn't...and that's why I believe Randy Couture is going to do exactly the same thing in mma that Roy Jones Jr did in boxing...and that's hand James Toney his first loss.

ive been sayin this for a while Toney has K.O 19 people using jab combos so if Randy catches a hook!!! he will be in trouble big trouble if he gets in a decent combo Randy will be in over his head he needs to be smart MMA is his sport if he is smart he will win if he gets fool hardy i can really see 1st round Knock Out

Quit saying Randy is a strategist, he isnt for god sake hes been doing the same thing for 10 years.... starts of boxing his way in...gets up close...gets in his underhooks pushes them towards the cage dirty boxes or goes for the take down where he ground and pounds...he makes me laugh when he says " I look forward to coming up with a new plan" RANDY wake up you do the same bloody thing every fight!

Im guessing he will beat Toney boringly, theres no way Toney has any kind of take down defence to stop a wrestlers takedowns of Randys calibre, I think Randy wanted this fight as an easy win as hes been losing a few to date and wants to go 2 wins in a row after his controversial win over Vera, if he has any balls he'll trade for a little bit, although i very much doubt it.

Coz lets face it where dieing to see how a world class boxer strikes in the cage..well at least I DO!

James needs to be aggressive he needs to jab and set randy up...get randy to stand with him..stay away from the cage and keep the fight in the middle.

I think James will be lazy tho and enable Randy to get inside :(

No, I think they are spot on with how little he's got aside from punching power. No matter how you size it up, he's got just one chance, and that is a long shot. If he connects is all I hear. Bottom line, just about any striker will knock someone out if he connects. Toney has a good chance, maybe a great chance, to hit a bullseye while Randy is shooting in. However, if he doesn't, that window of opportunity will be gone and Randy will end this fight with Toney tapping, or with something broken, ripped, or with Toney GnP'd.

I'll sig bet, account bet, and put realy green on that end result with anyone here who's got the nuggets to do it.

Nuff said.

obviously tonney has a chance if he can hit randy. but unless he connects first time and finishes it, he will get taken down. and won't have a clue what to do from there.

wrestling is a damn good defence against boxing. but to deffend takedowns from a wrestler of randy's caliber you need some wrestling trainning. hoping for a one punch knock out is not staisticly viable,

tonney has a punchers chance, i'd give him 1against at least 20 for randy.

Toney is not going into this fight to be a one trick poney. I watched MMA live the other night and hes been training to be as well rounded of an MMA fighter as he can be come fight night. Now everyone knows that you cant possibly learn everything you need to in as much time as hes been training but all things considered I think he may shock some people.

Now that im thinking about it, this fight will be one of two ways, Randy will take Toney down and TKO him or Toney will KO Randy. I dont see this fight getting out of round 1.
