Brady969
If MMA was no longer here, how would boxing do? What's the best way to bring the UFC down? Would it be a death? Who would gain the most if The UFC went away? Would it be boxing? What's the best way for boxing to kill the UFC? How about a 'hit-man'? Yes, it's far fetched. Yes, it sounds crazy. But could it happen? Follow me, I have a little more.... What type of person would boxing send into MMA to "accidentally" kill an MMA fighter? Would it be someone who doesn't mean much to the sport of boxing anymore? Would it be someone that is still very dangerous? Would it be someone not very educated? Would it be someone who has financial problems? Would it be someone that most would brush off and consider a has-been and looked past by the MMA fans? When Dana gets called out by a fighter, what happens? Does he brush it off or does he tend to set an example or make a point? What would be the best way to sucker Dana White into unkowingly bringing this "hit-man" into the UFC? Would it be trash talk? Boxing is a sleazy sport with sleazy people involved. Could boxing be this sleazy?

Boxing is a sleazy sport with sleazy people involved. Could boxing be this sleazy? A rival MMA promotion would benefit most. Boxing fans are still going to watch the big boxing matches, and follow their favourite fighters. If UFC went out of business, this wouldn't change that fact. Send a "Hitman"? Do you even realise how stupid that sounds? Yes, Toney hits very hard, but there's very little chance he could do enough damage to kill anyone before a referee would stop the fight. Plus, he still has to HIT Randy, which is going to be harder than perhaps you are giving credit for. That's an understatement to say the very least. Where I might not be a fan of James Toney, to suggest he's a has been, or that MMA fans are looking past him is just very naive, he's still a very capable boxer, and has put lots of training into MMA, and I for one think this will show in his fight. I don't think he'll have enough rounded skills to win the fight, but I also don't think it's going to be an easy win for Randy. You obviously have a low opinion of boxing, so you're suggestion that Toney doesn't matter in the sport is just laughable, yes, his title isn't the most desired one, but he is still a highly respected boxer by most in the sport. Boxing is a sleazy sport? Based on what exactly? Yes, there are several unsavory characters in the sport and business of boxing, but to tar the entire industry with the same brush based on the few is simply unfair, and makes you look incredibly foolish. It's not like MMA doesn't have it's fair share of unsavory people in it.

HIMBOB
I just don?t see who or how this would be organised. Who is the person or organised group who could do this? Boxing is not run by some shadowy mens club its run by thousands of shadowy mens clubs with no real common goals or communitcation. Yes the boxing industry would like Toney to score a massive, quick and brutal win over Randy but I just don?t see any group organised to plan such a thing. To me it is all really simple one group of boxers put up a guy (Toney) who they think can win, if he does cool if not well at least people mentioned boxing. Personally I have never had any interest in normal boxing, it just seemed so unnatural.
Tweak
I maybe the only person on this forum to think this but boxing is not affected by the uprising of MMA. If MMA didn't exist i think boxing would still be dying. Boxing in its current state is not an attractive spectator sport, NRL or AFL could easily fulfil the testostorone requirements for teenage boys for the week. I say this because boxing is largely viewed by older men because they grew up with the sport and know its polotics and how it works. For new fans boxing polotics is complicated and frustrating. MMA does not suffer this... mostly. By politics i'm meaning how fighters get so much power over who they fight. Super fights just never happen anymore. Boxing superstars are mostly money hungry ducks who won't take risks (Mayweather). MMA has got this problems (limited as is) but like most people say about MMA, styles make good fights. Another issue is poor promotion. This is when the UFC excells at selling MMA to new viewers. I remember the first time i saw a UFC promotion it was Liddel V Couture 1. I never heard of the UFC or those 2 fighters but i really really wanted to see that fight because they sold it so damn well. Boxing promotion is poor at best and i'm only genuinly interested in seeing big named fighters fight, safe to say it would be the same case for other casual boxing fans. Finally, MMA has so much more dynamic fights. Fighters can do just about anything they can imagine and put of a good fight. The rules are pretty relaxed and referees don't need to interfer to much. This makes fights flow much better. Boxing is a very critical sport. Every move a boxer made is scrutinised. Also something very dissapointing is the rules and style of the sport make it easy for fighters to take a dive. Fights can be enormously boring to add to this. Trying to get new fans is hard for boxing to do. fights are to structured and good fights are completely dependent on the fighters. MMA is instant action, great for casual fight fans because your left wanting more. Once you see a boxing match you get the feeling that, that is all and nothing more to see. Could boxing be this sleazy? 1) you refer to "boxing" (a sport with many distinct orgonizations) as some shadowy kabal running a back door conspiracy. thats like me saying the world financial market is run by "big dairy" 2) toney is insane and slightly retarded. toney is DEFINITELY going to severly injure randy, and toney might accidentally kill randy. is this the work of the conspirators who all have direct links to "big punch fighting" or "large glove manufacturing"? no. is this the individual act of a madman who dana was foolish enough to sign for a fight? yes.
