Dan_Hardy_
not sure if it has been brought up yet.. Mac Danzig's rematch with Matt Wiman (12-5 MMA, 6-3 UFC) looks like it's on the shelf for now. The lightweights were scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night 22, but multiple sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) that Danzig (19-8-1 MMA, 2-4 UFC) sustained an undisclosed injury and has been replaced by Efrain Escudero (13-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who was originally slated to meet John Gunderson, on the event's televised card. Gunderson (23-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is now expected to meet returning UFC veteran Yves Edwards (38-16-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC) on the un-televised portion of the Spike TV event. UFC Fight Night 22 takes place Sept. 15 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Wiman vs. Escudero now serves as the co-headliner to the Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares main event. Wiman first took on Danzig at UFC 115 and locked in a guillotine choke from top position early at the Canadian event. After Danzig struggled to free himself, referee Yves Lavigne halted the bout after testing the fighter to see if he was still conscious. He was, though Lavigne thought he went out cold, and Danzig immediately protested the bout's stoppage as the crowd booed the decision. The two spoke in the cage afterward and agreed a rematch was in order. It was Wiman's second consecutive octagon victory. Prior to the June fight, he bested Shane Nelson by unanimous decision at UFC 107 this past December. The wins reversed a two-fight slide with losses to Jim Miller and Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 16 and UFC 97, respectively. Meanwhile, Escudero, who won "The Ultimate Fighter 8," recently returned to the winner's column when he sent Dan Lauzon packing from the UFC with a unanimous-decision victory at UFC 114. The performance came after a disappointing submission loss to Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night 20 that tarnished his previously undefeated record. Edwards returns to the ocatgon after a four-year absence in which he served stints with BodogFIGHT, EliteXC, Strikeforce and, most recently, Bellator Fighting Championships. In fact, the originator of "Thugjitsu" is just six days removed from his promotional debut with the tournament-based promotion, where he bested Luis Palomino by decision at Bellator 24. Edwards' very recent win came after a loss to Northeast standout and WEC veteran Mike Campell in May at a Moosin MMA event. Gunderson, an IFL veteran, also reversed his fortune with a unanimous-decision over Mark Holst at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale. The former IFL regular fell short in his octagon debut with a decision loss to Rafaello Oliveira at UFC 108. Gunderson was scheduled to take on Paul Taylor at UFC 112, but Taylor was removed from the Abu Dhabi card hours before it began due to a serious migraine headache. The two were rebooked to fight at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale, but Taylor was not medically cleared to fight, and the promotion subsequently slotted Holst in his spot. The latest UFC Fight Night 22 card now includes: MAIN CARD Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares Efrain Escudero vs. Matt Wiman* Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau Cole Miller vs. Ross Pearson PRELIMINARY CARD John Gunderson vs. Yves Edwards* Jared Hamman vs. Kyle Kingsbury Dave Branch vs. Tomasz Drwal Rich Attonito vs. Rafael Natal David Mitchell vs. Anthony Waldburger Brian Foster vs. Forrest Petz Escudero takes this .
