Ontario?s Integrity Watchdog Asked To Investigate The Possible Illegal MMA Lobbying | Steve Rattlesnake

Ontario?s integrity watchdog is being asked to investigate the possibility of illegal lobbying that may have convinced the government to allow mixed martial arts in the province.

The New Democrats made the request following reports that former premier David Peterson lobbied the current Liberal government on behalf of Ultimate Fighting Championship.

NDP critic Peter Kormos says that would violate provincial laws that require people to register as lobbyists.

Peterson has denied he did any lobbying, but NDP justice critic Peter Kormos says Ontario?s integrity commissioner should investigate.

In a letter to commissioner Lynn Morrison, Kormos urges her to find out whether illegal lobbying activities are taking place.

The governing Liberals opened the door to the combat sport a week ago, even though Premier Dalton McGuinty had previously dismissed the idea of allowing MMA, saying it wasn?t a priority.
