artvandelay-1
This isn't boxing, it doesn't work the same. Its a good idea just for the info but it shouldn't be a big factor in deciding who wins fights

Not that im saying anyones wrong here.
Epilogue1406051983
I have to agree... strike count isn't everything... a good solid punch that rocks someone imo should count more than 10 pillow fists, and since the stats don't always reflect that, it only serves to confuse the audience... and this doesn't count the factors of aggression, control, and damage that play into judges' decisions... artvandelay-1
I think its a good idea to have, kind of , but the announcers were using the punch totals every 20 seconds to make some kind of point. I would like to see them........ after the fight just to see how different people styles and how they set up their punches. In the end it doesn't really affect the fight at all. The Strikeforce announcers use the punch stats so much because they dont know what they are talking about so they throw some stats out there to make it seem like they do. Von_Kaiser
Stats are never the be-all and end-all of anything. They're there to put things into context. Someday we'll be reeling off a guys TD% and striking % like baseball fans discuss a guy's BA or RBI totals. I'm joking of course but stats have a place in MMA as they do in any sport. Vendur
The main striking stat to look at is usually power strikes. And that number would be highly relevant in an MMA fight if the fight never really went to the ground.
