Starting to get Worried

Ok Randy Couture vs. James Toney is this Saturday, the more i think about this fight, the more i think about Toney winning, i think Nogueira is an amazing fighter, he is very good but i feel that now that he is out of his prime, his hands arent very heavy. He dropped Randy multiple times in their fight and i think Toney has hands that are more heavy then Nogueira. If this goes to the ground then i deffinitly have Randy but something just tells me if it stays standing up we might be surprised. Thoughts?

Randy knows he has to get this fight to the ground immediately. He is perfectly aware of Toney's power. He himself has said that if he doesn't get the fight to the ground quick that he will be in trouble.

So I'm not worried. I expect Randy will get the takedown within the first 30 seconds.

This. Randy is no dummie. Once it goes to the mat Toney will be like a fish out of water.

Toney's milk expires Aug 28.

The more I think about it I don't care if Randy loses. Randy is past his prime and quite old, so what if Toney beats him, try pairing up an MMA and boxing fighter in their primes and see what happens, this would be a more true test of which one can dominate more. I still think Randy should win this one.

Randy will.

And my whole problem with Toney is his attitude. He's only doing this so that he can go and say that boxing is harder than MMA. He's not interested in trying MMA for a career like Lesnar did. He just wants to brag about how much harder it is to avoid being a punching bag versus avoiding getting a limb broken or choked to death.

You're right, it's most just hype, these guys know how to sell a PPV and make money and brag, but I hope it comes back to haunt him, I really disklike the guy.

Yeah. Imagine what Toney will feel like when one of these "supposed legends" defeats a dude with his head so far up his ****.

Toney will never want anything to do with MMA after this fight, period. He won't even want to talk about it. This fight will be the one that haunts him for the rest of his life.

Im nervous, because if randy loses mma is going to get bashed and people will think boxing is superior

It's bothered me since day 1 that Randy is the guy the UFC chose to fight Toney. A win over Couture would boost his career further than it ever should be. It's also disrespectful to other people in the UFC that want to fight Couture, yet this clown gets to fight him in his first fight. I hate gimmick fights.

The only reason i dont want Randy to lose is so people dont start thinking boxing is better than MMA.

Well, to be honest, you would have extremely strong personal tastes for stand-up fighting to think boxing is better than MMA. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a high caliber boxer entering into MMA. Wrestlers do it all the time. But is wrestling better than MMA? All depends on one's personal tastes.

Anyone who thinks MMA is better than boxing won't change that opinion if Randy loses, much like those who think boxing is better than MMA won't change their opinion if Toney loses. This fight won't change many people's thoughts between the two. It could be good for MMA if Randy wins and enough boxing fans are watching and realize what we all know in that there's really something spectacular about MMA that boxing doesn't seem to posess anymore.

This fight, regardless of the outcome, won't convince too many people that boxing or MMA is the superior craft. It all comes down to personal tastes and to the top competitors of both sports, I salute you because no one can deny that regardless of which one a person enters, to become a top fighter requires a ton of heart, skill, and determination. The assets of champions.

I thought it was interesting what WBA boxing Heavyweight champion David Haye said about this fight:

?Six months of training isn?t going to be enough. As a UFC fan, I know two or three years wouldn?t be enough. How many times has Toney sprawled in his life? 500? How many leg kicks has he taken in his life? 300? How many Kimura attempts has he defended? 140? Even if he?s done double that amount, he wouldn?t have nearly the experience needed to win a UFC fight.?

Haye also stresses that this is not just a criticism of Toney specifically, but rather that he is speaking from his own experiences. In fact it was only a couple of years that Haye, who?s father was a Karate teacher, talked about making the transition when his boxing career comes to an end.

?I know from training in MMA myself that the wrestling aspect ruins your punching power,? he reveals. ?After a minute of grappling, your arms, back and shoulders fill with blood and even if you then find space to throw punches, your power is suddenly crap.

?And I hit a lot harder and I?m so much faster than James, and I couldn?t land a punch on fighters when all they wanted to do was take me down to the ground. James is a much more static fighter than I am, and is going to get thrown on his back immediately by Randy. I admire Toney?s spirit and boxing skills. But he?s delusional here.?

I was giving toney a decent chance against couture, but after talking to many people who know a thing or two about boxing, they all agree that toney doesn't stand a chance. They say the atmosphere & techniques are so different. Toney won't be comfortable after the first kick

Randy has never been hit like Toney is going to hit him.

He has zero room for error.
