Penn seems to do worse in rematches

Recommended Posts

Uno fight: Penn KTFO uno in 11 seconds.

Uno rematch: Goes the distance to a draw

Hughes fight: Penn submits Hughes in the 1st round.

Hughes rematch: Hughes smashes Penn in round 3

GSP fight: GSP wins by split decision.

GSP rematch: GSP completely dominates Penn

With the exception of Jens Pulver... BJ always does worse in rematches

Just something Ive noticed.

I haven't seen BJ so motivated since his fight with GSP!

also BJ is 1-2-1 in 2nd fights of rematches.

1 Win - To a washed up Pulver

2 Loses - To an aging Hughes and GSP

1 Draw - Caol Uno

I said it before you, I win.

Two WW's and fighting Hughes the second time (and winning for most of the fight before his rib was broken and he gassed horribly) on short notice.

This proves nothing.

Just saying.

Once again... Sugar coating Penn's loses to not make them sound so bad.

Typical BJ fanboy.

Typical BJ fanboy.

Am I sugarcoating?

Well maybe if you actually watched the fights and didn't look it up on Wikipedia you would have known what I meant.

He's a natural LW and goes up in weight by getting fat - but he goes up in weight.

We all know this.

Just saying.

He's 1-0-1 as a lightweight in rematches then.

Is that "doing worse"?

he hasn't had enough rematches to say that he isn't good in rematches....

1-2-1 isn't a big enough group to say that...now if he was 0-4 in rematches maybe you have something...

The only win was against washed up Jens Pulver

He does worse in rematches... Not even worth debating

Again, because he fought to a draw with Uno?

You're delusional... Not even worth debating

Come up with a cogent argument next time then.

I'll leave' date=' have a nice day sir ;)[/quote']

Kristufa u make sense, i mean the welterweight ones are understandable cause he does just pack on fat to gain weight and he lacked cardio, and going to a decision against uno is respectable when it was 7 years ago, lets be honest Caol tried something stupid and got wrecked... and GSP greased in the rematch and this is coming from somebody who respected GSP just kinda dislike him after seeing the evidence....

Fan of BJ yes, fanboy no!

Have you come here to give your opinion that the world so desperately needs to know?[/quote']

already did, but i'll restate it for you since you must have missed it.

No way in hell Edgar can finish Penn before the end of the 5th round. the only way BJ can do worse in this rematch is if the judges all score if 50-45

He won 1 of his four rematches and the arguement is whether he does good in rematches. He gassed, hes not a true ww, GSP greased, he was injured, Edgar stole the fight but celebrating to the judges. Last I checked not being in better shape is the fighters fault and not something to excused and give him a free pass to lose.

you seriously are impossible to talk about mma with. why do you come on mma forums?

Not with you.

Just ask guys like ufcgod1 or spiderprodigy... I have many great MMA debates with them.

YOu just have the attitude like your opinion matter so much more than anybody elses.

So I don't like to debate with you.

Those stats are a little misleading.

Against Uno he caught him in the first fight and laid him out quickly, that can happen at any time no matter how equally matched two guys are. It's possible the fight would have stayed very close if not for a good punch landing.

Against Hughes he subbed him the first time and almost subbed him the second time but gassed his legs trying to finish off that traingle at the end of the round. Up until that point he was completely controlling. Still he did gas and lost to a bigger, stronger guy with better cardio.

With GSP their first fight was when GSP was much younger, not as strong and less polished especially standing. Still GSP did the same things for round 2 and 3 that he did in their second fight. He took him down and g n p'd him. If that fight had gone 5 rounds it would have looked the same as the second. The only difference was GSP tried to stand with him the first fight and Bj is a much better boxer, so GSP got busted up.

Then there is his rematch with Pulver and of course he dominated that one.

Granted your stats are accurate but they don't paint a realistic picture in my opinion, at least not in terms of how it relates to this rematch. He isn't fighting a bigger guy who is just going to bully him en route to a win. Hughes and GSP are his two significant rematches that went badly and they are both much bigger and stronger than him naturally. Plus they are both cardio machines, which Edgar is as well but he doesn't have the size to wear Bj down. With all that said I still think Edgar will eek out another decision if Bj chooses to stand the whole time. Bj has to land something big or take the fight to the ground a lot to win against Edgar.

I don't debate with him on anything to do with Silva or Shogun

Ahh, then he's semi-good at talking MMA.

Either way, I think it's pretty clear he only got into the game recently ;)

Those fights were above his natural weight class, and against exceptional fighters. I don't think they should factor in too much.

lmao how would you know? you've never actually debated with me. I've never seen you even write a paragraph on these forums... seems like you really don't have much to say about anything.

and i don't care if you talk with ufcgod, that dude is the most annoying member on these forums with his nonsensical, relentless shogun rants

all opinions are valid buddy, maybe you need to work on being able to allocate your opinion and actually make it appear like you are passionate about what you're saying instead of saying "bro u fail"

my opinion is no better than yours, i'm just passionate about mine, unlike you with yours.

So only Bj haters have relevant opinions? At least you knew your only argument left was attacking me.

BJ's rematches were against fighters he already beat except GSP and Jens. It?s tough to beat any good fighter multiple times especially after winning the first fight.

Secondly, look at the fighters he had rematches with. The best UFC WW Champion ever Matt Hughes, the arguable P4P best fighter in the world and 2nd best WW champion in UFC history GSP, Caol Uno who is respected as one of the best LW in the world and Jens who is also viewed as one of the best 145-155lbs fighters ever.

These are not just your average fighters and other than the Jens rematch they all were in their prime and not limping out of the UFC.
