Rashad Evans ... another TUF alum who gets all the breaks

So, lets get this straight....

Rashad gets a title shot after beating Bisping (who moved DOWN a weight class after this fight and was never any good to begin with) by DECISION and then beating Chuck (who clearly had already had his eggs scrambled by 'Page).

Then Rashad is exposed as another TUF hype machine product by Lyoto in short order.

But because Rashad is a TUF alum - after mediocre DECISION wins over Silva and 'Page (who had been off for a year..) Evans not only gets a title shot (not deserved) BUT he gets to sit around for a year and wait for it.

Harldy the attitude of a champion. Of course, since Rashad has already begged off fighting Couture out of fear (oh, sorry, the reason he claimed he didn't take the fight was that it was a no-win situation, but really, we all know that an aging Randy would have had more than enough to destroy Rashad). Chuck never would have taken a year off even if he HAD earned a shot. In fact, Chuck fought Sobral while waiting for his shot.

Either grow a pair Evans, or get out. You're a coward.

Someone has to be number one contender, and the UFC has decided that right now it's Rashad. Why would they do that? Here's why I think this is the right choice (at least for right now)

Lyoto just got his **** KTFO, so if you want to say Rashad was "exposed" by Lyoto then what do you say about what Shogun did to Lyoto?

Rampage lost to Rashad (no excuses... don't say he was "off" for a year.... a true champion or contender is NEVER "OFF" !) ....and Rampage is my fav btw!

Bones doesn't have the resume (yet)

Thiago Silva lost to Rashad

Anderson Silva has to stay at his weight for now so he's out of the picture

... so who else really? The only other top 8 guy is Franklin and he hasn't really earned his way up the 205lb ladder quite yet...

What do you think guys, do you agree/disagree?

While I agree Rashad should be fighting at least once if Shogun is off until next May-June. It really is DFW's fault yet again.

He needs to stop proclaming #1 contender bouts period.Wait till after the god damn fight. Not only does naming a fight #1 contender seem to make every fighter all of a sudden fight like **** because they don't want to chance losing. You get **** like this situation with Evans and Fitch. Hi, your the next in line, but the Champ is busy or injured so you can sit out for 6months to a year waiting.

His time will come' date=' for now its Rashad. Maybe he didn't deserve his first title shot but no one holds that belt for too long nowaday!![/quote']

very true..... his time will come... and as much as i dont like rashad, he is prob top of the que 4 a title shot...... and it does seem mainly in the lhw div, no1 can hold the 4 more than 1 title defence.... if that...

I don't see a problem with rashad because as explained by joaquin there's really nobody else but i think he should have to fight somebody else in the mean time it is ridiculous because if he really does deserve the next shot at the title he should be able to beat one guy

Funny how nobody mentions Rashads KO of Griffin. At that point a lot of people thought griffin was the real deal. Griffin beat the almighty Rampage then got KO'd by Evans. Sure Evans' last couple fights have been very boring and lame but who else in the divsion is worthy enough for a fight with the Champ. Jones would be worthy if the UFC would stop throwing him chumps to fight. So for now Evans is the front runner

unfortunately agreed...... tho it would be good if jones wasnt being so nurtured, give him some1 who would relly test him and put him in the murkey waters...... say if rua is out even loger than 1st thought...... would love to see suga vs bones..... tho there is next zero chance of that happening....

Dana said Jones is fighting someone in the top 8 next, but it won't be until next year.

Waiting for a shot like this is only going to lose him fans. People want to see fighters fight and after his last lackluster performance, where he was inches away from losing for a 2nd straight time he should be out showing the world why he deserves the shot. Rashad is not an exciting fighter and he looks scared. I can't wait to see his face when Shogun lays into him with one of his kicks.

You missed out that before the Machida fight he TKO'd Forrest Griffin and most people thought Rampage was gonna KO evans but got completely dominated. There is an argument to say he fights "boring" but hes only got one loss and dominated his last fight against someone who was supposed to beat him

so in saying that' date=' is bones not going to fight again this year? or he is and its still going to be a mid tier lhw?[/quote']

Dana said that they're going to wait and see what happens with the upcoming LHW fights and that Jones' next fight will be against someone in the top 8. I'm assuming that if he beats that person, he'll get a crack at the title. Dana also said it won't be until next year.

I hate Rashad but he should be the #1 contender.

In a perfect world Shogun would have been given the decision he should have been given in the first fight with Machida and then Rashad/Machida II would have happened. Unfortunately Shogun got screwed so while he and Machida went at it for the title again Rashad invented the Wall n Stall and decisioned Thiago and Rampage.

The good news is that while Rashad is getting his face caved in by Shogun the LHW title picture will get cleared up.

Oh and yes Rashad was scared to fight Randy. Randy is the best dirty boxer in MMA and would have destroyed the Wall n Stall strategy he now relies on.

Idk..he deserves his shot, somewhat. But he still fought like a ***** in the rampage fight. He didn't thoroughly impress in his last two fights no matter what any one says your not gonna convince me so don't try. I don't like that he has to sit out but it doesn't make sense for him to fight & lose his title shot because shogun gets injured every day & requires surgery. I'd like to see rashad get knocked the **** out but also want a champion who doesn't need surgery everyday.

Its lame having to wait a year to see Rua get owned. But its not like this is good for Evans either. Sure he can sit out and not lose his title shot. But he also goes a year without a paycheck. Thats no fun.

Evans will get kicked to death by Shogun. That won't be any fun either.

Not haters he makes great points Rashad is just a little panzy' date=' some TUF Alum havent always been handed the easy careers, Griffin, Sanchez, Serra, Stevenson, among others.. i dont know why Rashad was protected the same way GSP is![/quote']

How do you figure Rashad or GSP are protected? I don't even like Rashad and ALWAYS root against him but I still can't see your logic. He has only fought other top ten fighters since breaking the top ten himself. Chuck, Forrest, Silva, Lyoto, Rampage. That doesn't seem very protected. Who exactly are they protecting him from? As for GSP there' is nothing you can say about him being protected and you know it. He's been fighing the best for years. If anything the argument could be made that Matt Hughes was protected from him or he could have been champ 1-2 years earlier.

Again I can't stand Rashad. He seems like a decent guy and probably a good teammate but I just don't like his fighting style and always hope he loses. But I still think he deserves to be the number one contender. If not him then who? Really who deserves it more?

It's more like after Rashad knocked out Chuck' date=' he overestimated his stand up game and thought he could knockout anyone, then got clipped by Machida. Now he's back to his wrestling, which looks phenominal, and he's on his way to the title again.[/quote']

Thiago had no working back and was giving a bonus to not pull out.

Rashad went 3-12 on takedowns against a Rampage that hadn't fought in a year and was making movies instead of training.

Look Rashad has a great fast shot but IMO his wrestling as a whole is over rated. In colleage he went 43-38 as a Spartan! And in MMA struggles against non wrestlers and got crushed by the one true wrestler he fought in Tito

Going back to the first part of your post. Its hilarious that Rashad lost the first round to a past prime Liddell, closed his eyes landing the hail mary punch for the KO in the 2nd and then all the sudden started thinking he was some elite untouchable striker and gods gift to MMA. Thank god for Machida!!!! Now I hope that Shogun truly humblest this man and just puts a vintage Shogun beatdown on his lame ****. Nothing else could make me more happier as a UFC fan

p.s. Rashad has 5 SPLIT decision wins that could have very been losses. He's always been lackluster but acts like he is the GOAT or something

Rashad was getting beat up by Forrest and capitalized on a mistake.

Machida just cut him up like sushi and gave him a snuggie.

Silva tagged him but was too gassed to do anything.

Rampage grazed him and Rashad was basically out.

Regardless of how "phenomenal" his wrestling has looked (he had a pretty ok wrestling record if I remember but no where close to King Mo, Brock, Manynad etc) he has still gotten tagged in his last 4 fights. What suddenly changes the fact that Shogun won't do the same and finish him? Shogun has more power than Machida and more cardio than Silva and Rampage.

I feel that Rashad is just way overhyped...
