Fighters With Heart

Am I the only one who this doesnt really matter to? Every day I hear tons of people say who they like based on their "heart". All fighters have heart they all go in there and give it all they got to win. There are also fighters with heart that do nothing (i.e. Wayne Weems). Im not saying I only like great fighters I love a lot of terrible fighters but Im trying to ask if im the only one who doesnt care about heart when Im picking my favorite fighters?

I think its a big factor because guys with heart usually put on better fights and don't quit when they're getting their asses handed to them. Guys like Guida, Diego, Bonnar, and Forrest are fan favorites because they'll fight anyone they're told to and despite not being the most talented they're some of the most popular. Nobody likes to watch a guy quit in between rounds because they're afraid of getting hit (Jamie Yager).

Thats why Jamie Yager doesnt have a contract.

I dont like to watch Bonnar because its not like watching someone showcase their skills its like watching someone stand and whip their arms around. And Forrest wont fight Bones.

I agree to an extent. You wouldnt be a cage fighter (especially if you were in the UFC) if you didnt have heart. At the same time, thats basically how people describe fighters who either give up in the last few minutes if they are losing or go for the finish (example: Anderson Silva against Sonnen, like someone mentioned before)

Forrest said he didn't want to but he would if that's the fight they gave him.

And yes I would rather watch Clay Guida vs Diego Sanchez again than watch Chuck KO Tito.

You have to have heart to train for a professional fight' date=' cut weight, and get in the octagon. All very difficult things, this isnt basketball.[/quote']

LOL! no you don't?

you need heart to get up after you get knocked down. you need heart to start the 5th round when you can't breathe. you need heart to keep fighting when you have blood in your eyes. you need heart to keep fighting when you're outclassed in every aspect of the fight. heart is what keeps some fighters going when the going gets tough. the fighters without heart FOLD, time and time again.

OK you have to go through some of the toughest physical training in the world for 4 months. Then you have to cut 25 pounds in 2 days, then you have to get punched in the face for an extended period of time... youre right anyone can do that.

you don't face anything in training that simulates a true fight. that's the reality.

not only is your arguement retarded based on that fact but it's also flawed in the fact that there are tons of fighters who don't train hard and who can't cut the weight. like when alves gave 20 percent of his purse to fitch over a half pound. what a *****.

and I also agree that anyone can train for 4 months then cut weight. but very few can do what I stated heart is.

The fighter who trains the least trains harder than you ever could.

Bonnar isnt good i dont care about how much "heart"

The reason I cant stand him is because everyone in the world seemingly loves him because he has heart and i see so little skill from him im sick of it.

Bonnar has a very admirable trait. He has the will to keep going even when things aren't looking good for him. That drive, that motivation to keep going is something almost everyone admires. That is why Bonnar is a fan favorite. Or it could be because his fights are always exciting.

I appreciate when people showcase their skill more than their ability to continue with a losing effort.

I appreciate the ability to continue with a losing effort more. Do you think I'm not a fan of Penn only because of his mouth? No. Penn has everything to be the #1 P4P, but he doesn't take advantage of his God-given talents. Imagine what a fighter like Bonnar would do with half of Penn's natural talent. I have no doubt in my mind that he would exploit that talent to it's full potential and maybe even more.

Fighters like Jon Fitch, Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin don't have the luxury of cruising by on talent. They have to work their asses off to be able to accomplish half of what a naturally talented guy can accomplish on their talent alone. That is why I have more respect for fighters who work hard and long in the gym to make up for lack of a God-given talent.

I also have a lot of respect for the fighters who do take advantage of those talents. GSP is the perfect example. He's exploiting everything he has and taking it to a whole new level.
