I think Toney is going to win tonight.

Knockout in the first. But Penn is gonna whoop Edgar and get his belt back.

So... a boxer, WELL past his prime, WAY over weight, with no shoes, is going to enter into an MMA fight with a world class wrestler, an MMA legend and hall of famer, with six months of experience, and knock him out? Really?

A. Toney is NOT a naturally big fighter. If he were in shape, and cutting weight like an MMA fighter, he'd likely be a big WW, not even a huge WW.

B. Toney is a boxer who plants his feet and throws punches. He has never had, nor relied on good lateral movwement in his fights. Two problems here in MMA.

1. He will not have shoes on. Boxers rely on the traction they receive from the shoes to plant their feet and sit down in their punches.

2. His lower body will be as good as stationary, which does him zero favors against leg kicks (which he has NEVER dealt with before) and takedown shots.

C. Toney is NOT a one punch knockout fighter. He really never has been. The last time he was consistently finishing fights before the mid-way point was in the mid 90's. The only guy to KO Couture with one punch was Liddell. Liddell trained MMA for years, and had an inordinate ability to land power shots in the context of MMA. He is also a naturally larger man than Toney. Couture has been hit flush before, and the only other shot that put him down HARD was the one from Lesnar, and it was a clip behind the ear. Anyone claiming that Toney can hit harder than Lesnar is being stupid, and I don't even like Lesnar.

D. Toney has never been driven into a cage with the full weight of his opponent against him. His legs have never been the target, and he has never had to deal with damage below the waist. Three minutes into this fight he will be more tired, and hurting in more places than he imagined possible.

E. Toney is WAY out of shape. If nothing else can be given to Couture, it's that he has NEVER had conditioning issues. The man is in better shape at the age of 189 (you get the point) than most people ever will be. Conditioning, for my money, is the single most important physical ability an MMA fighter can have.

Not to mention, Ray Mercer, a better HW than Toney, was taken down and choked out by Kimbo. Bwaahahhaaaaaa. Case closed.
