DKF
I feel sorry for him because this win is a morale win, but it doesnt move him closer to the common goals of the fighters, a championship belt. That was lol, that is how I imagined the wprld class boxer vs world class wrestler would go.
AussieSausage
lol couture needed to win, if he didnt. well............i dont know what would happen lol. i hoped for a knockout, but submission is good enough for me i dont think couture has anymore champion in him
DKF
Well yeah if he lost he would be exiled, but I mean he could have fought someone that would have got him closer to a title shot, I highly doubt this win got him any higher in the division standings. Coreyflipp
Yes it does. I don't think yall have noticed but there is no legit division standings or ranking system. Couture is a fan favorite, he will sell fights. Beating Toney puts him on a 3 fight win streak, if he beats his next opponent he may very well get a title shot. A lot of fighters who have been in the sport a long time and held belts don't really care much about it anymore, such as Hughes and Couture. Couture said as soon as he got this fight he knew it would not get him any closer to the title, but he still wanted the fight.

He knows age is catching with him and he's a reasonable dude. He's a legit fighter. Great experience, great discipline, but I don't think he could make it to the title anymore. Tonight he showed he was still in great shape and that his grappling abilities couldn't be countered by just a couple months of hard training. Couture's a real fighter and his name is up there already... I think he keeps fighting just because he loves it.

That was lol, that is how I imagined the wprld class boxer vs world class wrestler would go.[/quote'] Randy won the UFC Honorable Championship. Much like the Cecille B. Demille lifetime achievement awards at the Oscars, this was Randy's championshop as a mixed martial artist over a mixed martial art in boxing. Was James Toney the best they could do for a boxer? Maybe maybe not, but Toney didn't realize what he was in for. Too calm and slow at the start of the fight--Carwin slow (like lookin for that one KO punch). And no, Hong Man Choi over Canseco isn't what I'm talking about. Give it up for James for stepping in, but that's it.
Coreyflipp
Randy is fighting because he loves the sport, and he likes the different matchups in styles and the different challenges they present. But you better believe he would take a title shot if offered. Hell, he even said he would like to fight Anderson, and judging by the Sonnen fight I think he could win. Jeff83
When Toney entered the UFC... Couture asked Dana for this fight and since he's a well respected fighter Dana gave it to him. Couture was the perfect MMA role model to bring in against the boxing bad boy Toney. James Toney is an idiot and complete joke. Go back to your trainer and ask for the 9 months of training back... you couldn't even work the guard.
