muay thai in MMA is a watered down style. Actually Muay Thai has 4 different forms and 3 of those forms are not allowed in the UFC and 2 are not allowed in any MMA function. Youll never see a muay thai headbutt from the strike zone, the clinch, or the ducked stance. Youll never see a sternum elbow or any variation of 180, 360 elbow and knee strikes.Alot of combat martial arts have restrictions because the moves are considered deadly and likely to cause permanent damage to vital areas. Meanwhile, a cushion style like wrestling has almost zero restrictions (i believe you are not allowed to perform certain can-opener variations.) and rampantly free to push a fight on the ground for 4 and a half minutes and ultimatly press a win for pressuring positions that an opponent is unfamiliar with or has defense for but cannot unstick from.

A series of combat manuevers taught in military, sambo, commando, and many martial arts have a clear way of disabling an opponent who is grabbing and smothering you. None of these are allowed in mma since they attack small joints, throats, apply ilegal chokes, eyes, mouth, and the tempo. In this enviroment that wrestler is able to apply his pressure and recieve little or no resistance from an opponent underneath him. However, under more realistic conditions, a wrestler would suffer extreme damage, possibly permanent when facing a combatant who is under no illusion of a safety net.

It goes just the other way what if a wrestler could gouge your eyes out form the top? or head butt you from the top?

But you cant and thats the point. If he could then the fight could go either way. the wrestler could break his opponents fingers or wrist or the fighter beneath him could thrust an elbow into his enemies throat. Instead the wrestler is ontop and punching down on him from 1-4 transitional positions and the guy beneath him has, well known limited submission attempts (kimura-olmoplata-armbar-triangle) that fighters know exactly how to avoid. the fighter beneath him has only one option....squirm to get up and face another possible takedown on your way up because the balance isnt stable.

I don't get your point at all dude. In your 1st post it seemed like you were saying that if you could Headbutt and Eye Gouge, the wrestler would be nullified.

But then, the other guy says, "well the wrestler would be able to all that stuff from the top" and you agree.

What are you trying to say?

Bahaha. Perfect! And he also stated that some moves are deadly... Maybe that's why they are restricted? Nah. You can't die from 4 minutes of dry humping, but you can from said elbows and headbutts.

Could we just give each fighters swords or knives or something? I mean, not really sharp ones that could just slice through limbs, but just old rusty ones that can still cut, but not instantly kill, ya know? I think it would make the sport a lot more interesting, and could be the solution to counter the rise of this boring-wrestling gameplan. What do you guys think?

Then don;t get taken down' date=' if you can't tough luck you're not better[/quote']

But when did MMA become all about wrestling? There's always gonna be one wrestler who's better than the rest. Someone who can take anyone else down at will. And in the current state of MMA, the only thing that can beat that guy is someone who can outwrestle him. The only people of that high a wrestling pedigree are people who concentrate on it the majority of the time, so a large number of these wrestlers don't have great striking credentials.

You say "don't get taken down" but the day of the sprawl and brawl fighter is disappearing because wrestlers in MMA are getting better and better. The only means they have of defeating each other is by outwrestling each other.
