towhatend
A knee injury has forced Rory MacDonald (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) out of next month's UFC 123 event, and Brian Foster (14-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has agreed to step in as a replacement and fight fellow welterweight Matt Brown (13-9 MMA, 4-3 UFC). MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the switch with sources close to the show, though UFC officials have not formally announced it. UFC 123 takes place Nov. 20 at The Palace of Auburn Hills in suburban Detroit. Foster vs. Brown is expected to keep its spot on the night's Spike TV "UFC Prelims" broadcast. That one-hour special precedes the night's pay-per-view main card. According to a source close to MacDonald, the promising youngster recently suffered a knee injury and was forced to pull out of the event. Foster, a member of the fast-rising H.I.T. Squad in Illinois, has alternated between wins (Brock Larson and Forrest Petz via TKO) and losses (Rick Story and Chris Lytle via submission) since joining the UFC in 2009. The Oklahoman found success on the regional circuit, which included wins over notables such as Steve Carl and Nathan Coy, before his promotion to the world's biggest MMA organization. He now looks to build off his UFC Fight Night 22 win over Petz, which earned him a $40,000 "Knockout of the Night" bonus. Brown, meanwhile, has hit the skids inside the octagon with two consecutive losses and needs to rebound. Most recently, he took on Lytle at UFC 116 in a rematch of an August 2007 American Fight League bout and was submitted via armbar in the second round. Prior to that, Renzo Gracie protege Ricardo Almeida caught him in a rear-naked choke at UFC 111. The hard-slugging Brown first became known to fans through "The Ultimate Fighter 7," where he was the show's resident badass. He fell short in the reality-tournament against the season's eventual winner, Amir Sadollah, but he caught fire after the show and won four of his first five UFC fights.
