Locking Threads vs Deleting them

if they remove the thread it deletes all the posts and it effects/removes those posts from peoples post count...i personally dont care about post counts but im sure some people really do which is why they just close the thread. i could be wrong but im pretty sure thats how it works.

 

Would this be the reason? sounds pretty bizarre if that's the case...

its prolly not the whole reason just a fact im sure it has to do a lot with the content of the thread, if there is to much bad stuff its better to delete it i suppose, also closing threads is useful for mods if they want to create a thread like some of the sticky threads that are messages to posters not meant to be posted in
