Craig_M
If there close they should be scored, but then surely you need to award points to the fighter for escaping a submission?

Tweak
Fighter who escapes it should get the same points as fighter who locked it in.
Vendur
It depends. Some are almost entirely a joke. Like when someone is getting takendown and they know it, and so they act like they were going for a guillotine. Someone who has a hooks in rear naked choke though should get the same points as someone who knocked the other guy down with a hard/punch ick and dazed them. KingZerxst
A good example of why I picked 'depends' is the W. Silva vs Bisping fight. Silva had that guillotine in tight, but it still failed. It deserves points.
Dinosaur
I think it just depends on what you go for. If you go for a guillatine and they slip out, it could turn out bad. But if you go for a kimura, nothing bad usually happens. You could wear yourself out but that's about it.

Just like a big punch which visibly rocks a fighter is scored more than a jab. Some fighters use sub-feints like jabs (G-Sot for one) and are an offensive means to an end. If anything it should score on the aggression scale.
Dinosaur
Martin Kampmann would've won that fight if he didn't have a failed submission attempt.
Riot_Act101
it depends imo. like gray maynard vs roger huerta, that kimura had to count for something. but say grabbing a guys neck like a guillotine to combat a td, that is nothing, unless the choke is actually attempted. HIMBOB
If the guy can't get out and the only thing that saves him is end of round yes should 100% get points for that. Also if they hold the position for long enough to mke it clear the other guy is trapped for basically as long as you want him to be then again yes points. Example Hathaway latest fight, yes that was stopped ue to end of round but the other guy was not going anywhere, if he decided to release and go for something else again he should get points. But really maybe those points could be awarded under the guise of octagon control. But if they can't hold it long and the other guy escapes maybe not.
