Respectful Champs Era

Overall it was a good article. I'm not a Brock fan but I agree that it was a bit harsh towards him. I think the fight with Cain showed he is human but I still think he can mix it up with anybody else in the division. He will probably get better with every fight if he sticks it out and I really don't think he will be "fed to the wolves" as the article says. He's still very marketable, Dana seems to like him, and I thought he had shown a great deal more humility since the whole diverticulitis ordeal. His most recent loss will probably only add to that.

As far as the respect being the new standard, I honestly think it always has been. Brash, disrespectful fighters are the exception to the rule in my opinion. In general I think mma fighters are respectful and good sports towards one another, even the guys like Rashad and Mir who have a rep for being egotistical are pretty respectful of their opponents. Guys like Kos, Tito, and Sonnen who go out of their way to bad mouth their opponents are definitely the rarities in this sport.

" Is smack talk still the road to success? "

To a small extent.

It helps the guys who really aren't great fighters get some attention.

The Bispings and Mcsweenys, the Koscheks and the MIrs - they all need something to make up for the fact that are are not top tier fighters.

The champions don;t need it, and as the article points out, in the long run the smack talkers are out of the sport.

how about when lesnar beat mir? humble? i don't think so. only after he got all that criticism did he clean up his act a little bit. it was so wonderful watching brock get demolished.

With all the trash Mir was talking before BOTH Lesnar fights, he deserved every moment of that beating and then boasting.
