Rumble170cHAMP
Possibly one of my first quality threads:) . enjoy lol for the record I have g-sot by submission or ground and pound tko. as far as the winner goes, I dont see how you cant have the winner fighting for a number one contender spot in the very near future. G-sot would certainly deserve it being 7-0 in the UFC and outside of sam stout's destruction of j-lau. Lauzon would deserve it too so i pose who to you the question of where they would stand in the picture and who they would be fighting next? possibly sherk who just defeated Dunham? thoughts please

MillenniumBoy
idk what you mean by that? There are a couple of LW out there that will get title shots before G.sot or J-Lau ever gets one especially with the WEC merger coming up.
uaquin
If G-Sot wins he will be right up there, but given what has been laid out with the WEC LW division being folded in, at best he will have to fight at least once more, more likely 2-3x before he gets a title shot. If they hadn't said the winner of Henderson vs Pettis gets the winner of Edgar vs Maynard to "unify" the belts I would say a win by G-Sot would have him in a #1 contender fight his next bout. Lauzon has much farther to go. Prior to beating Gabe he got thoroughly handled by Sam Stout. I would like to see the winner of this fight go against one of the WEC top dogs like Cerrone or the loser of Henderson vs Pettis.
Rumble170cHAMP
forgot the merger. well only the henderson-pettis winner gets a shot so thats only two fighters that have a chance to surpass them , but out of the current ufc lw's without the merger wouldnt you say the winner of this fight would at least deserve a number one contender fight? Sixshoota
I could see Sot fighting a number one contender fight if he beats Lauzon, but I don't see Lauzon fighting for a #1 contender if he wins. Maybe the winner of this fights the loser of Henderson/Pettis? or Loser of Edgar/Maynard? Sherk? winner of Dunham/Florian? There are tons of options for either guy win or lose. ipso_facto
This is why there needs to be a more structured ranking system implimented, rather than match-ups and title shots being decided by 1 or 2 guys (Silva and White)...especially now with the WEC merger. If organizations like the NFL, NBA, and NHL can do it...why not the UFC?? As it sits now, it is too subjective with personal opinion and media hype. But to answer your question, I feel that both fighters' skill levels rank in the top 5. However, Lauzon has lost against 2 top level fighters (Florian and Stout) and Sotiropoulos has yet to face a top contender (except for maybe Stevenson??)...so I'm not sure if either should (technically) rank that high. With a ranking system it would be more obvious who should fight who, and thats not good for the UFC. They want fights that attracts PPB buys. I'd like to see the winner face the winner of Kenflo/Dunham Sounds good to me too! Without the WEC that would have been for a title shot, now its a bit more unclear with Henderson, Cerone and so on

The sport has grown beyond the point of needing to fill seats or attract viewers. And with the way match-ups and title shots are currently being done, many worthy fighters are getting screwed because they arn't "popular". StephenColbert
I see Lauzon fighting for a title shot.... Rumble170cHAMP
hmm seems the overwhelming thoughts put g-sot much closer to a title shot then lauzon if he wins kinda makes me wonder why these two got put together in this mtchup anyway if lauzon is a few fights behind g-sots standing. i know its a very good matchup and will no doubt be a very good fight, but if luazon is still like two fights away from where g-sot is why did george get lauzon in the first place? kinda the same with fitch vs ellenberger i guess. no one else for him to fight maybe but lauzon right now? either way sould be a very good fight on a pretty solid main card
Craig_M
If G-sot wins i think he should be next for a title shot after Bendo/Pettis winner. He may or may not fight again after Lauzon, but definatly a title shot right after Bendo/Pettis.

Lauzon could win though too I wont doubt his talent although I think his standup vs george isnt as big a factor as some people on have mad the difference in the fight. After watching Sam Stout pick apart completely I hafta make George a solid favorite in the fight. I wouldnt be shocked if Joe won though, but I think george will find a mistake and capitalize.
