How Is Penn a Favorite Over Hughes?

Can't understand it. Penn is almost a 3 to 1 favorite and he has everything going against him. His last three losses have been against wrestlers. He's fighting out of his natural weight class. He's lost two in a row while Hughes has won three in a row. And Hughes beat them in their most recent fight.

They know who Bj is. And they know Bj dominated both of their last fights. A broken rib won't stop him this time.

i have no idea either alot of people are saying oh but Hughes got beat in the grappling last time around and the striking and Hughes was lucky that BJ broke a few ribs the last fight!

BJ is done in my opinion well almost i mean alot of people are forgetting BJ's face when he was taken down last Edgar fight i mean he was scared and the takedowns kept coming and kept coming!

Hughes is just as good a wrestler as Edgar maybe better and is a lot bigger and more powerful than Edgar too!

The only real difference between Hughes and Edgar is Hughes is more aggressive with his striking!

After BJs face when he got taken down last fight i knew he was pretty much done! Everybody was like apart from a few people thought Edgar would win as BJ was at full health but what happened BJ looked worse than before when he was supposedly ill!

As far as i am concerned this is a fight for BJ just for BJ it wont get Hughes any further to the title and it wont get Penn anywhere

this is Penns only chance at redemption for his last few fights but in all honesty Hughes has Penns number this time around yet again

Well' date=' Penn DOMINATED Hughes in both their fights. Easily.

At the end of the second round in their second fight, he separated a rib.

But, he still dominated all of their time in the cage other then that.[/quote']

this is true apart from Hughes has been improving and looked excellent last 2 fights

where as BJ has looked terrible BJ was ill (supposedly) in the first Edgar fight then when he was supposed to be at full health in the second fight he looked even worse!

Well said. Hughes has fought three jits guys in a row and smashed them with the exception of Serra and BJ has gotten dominated by GSP and Edgar twice hmmm. Just think too many people by into Penn's talk and excuses. (greased up GSP' date=' broken rib, illness)[/quote']

3 Jits guys that didn't have anywhere near the tdd and striking that Bj has.

but where was BJ;s TDD against Edgar?

Bj thinks he does not need to work on anything cause his camp is full of yes men where as Hughes tries to improve

unless BJ has got his head together and sacked half his camp for people that will try to improve him the same will happen that happened in the Edgar fight

Frankie landed 3 of 9 take down attempts. And he couldn't hold Bj there or do anything while he had top position.

Well,Hughes is just too strong and his BJJ is good too,and i think that he's the same fighter(if not better) as he was few years ago as a champ, but BJ isn't,he wasn't that good at LW so how he can be good at WW if it's not his natural weight class?....and Matt beat 3 best BJJ guys in the bussines, all of them by total annihilation....and he's too aggresive for BJ.... so my point goes to Matt

i counted more than that unless the leg sweep does not count as a takedown i counted 5 i think haha

but still BJ has not looked good at all has he

so unless he has pulled something significant out of his *** he will lose i think

Penn has 3-1 odds because he destroyed Matt the first fight and was dominate the second fight until he gassed. He has lost 2 in a row but to one person who is much faster than Matt, also he lost the first fight against Edgar in a very close match. Matt is coming off 3 wins but i think he lost 2 Serra, Renzo had not fought for 3 years and the Almeida fight was so short i dont think it means anything.

Very simply, Penn today is not the same Penn of yester-years. He is only effective if he is in shape and mentally has his head screwed-on straight. In looking at him on the Countdown show, he looks as physically soft as ever. He has not upped his training, and someone made a good point that Hughes is way stronger and a better wrestler than Edgar...I think Hughes will easily take him.

BJ Penn is going too make a statement this fight, and he's gonna crush Matt Hughes that is all.

BJ lost last fight because he ran out of gas. BJ has being doing title fights while Huges has being fighting show fights vs guys who has no chance of ever wining a title in ufc. BJ have this one in the bags imo. Only thing Huges can hope for is BJ still down and out from his last loss.

this...

how Penn looked against Edgar has nothing to do with Hughes...Hughes will not have such a large speed advantage that Edgar was able to enjoy...

Hughes lacks the speed that Edgar has so BJ should be able to defend the takedown pretty well against Hughes. Standing BJ has the advantage big time. BJ has been more dominant of Hughes in both of their last two fights. I see BJ winning the rubber match.
