its not offensive u sensative **** . orientiel is a word to describe japan, koreas, china, etc.. u ignorant ***

Orient means "the east" so oriental is eastern, hows that racist? Also, those people you mentioned are not good fighters, Overeem is, you actually think those people are as loved as Overeem over there, today?

I would lash out at him and expose him for the feeble mind he is or degrade his whole worth as a human being all-together..........or I can use big words to test the limits of his dinosaur brain.....or I can refer him to a special education program which is free for all who qualifies, but you know, Josh...............I am a nice guy and I see you have already eradicated the situation.

Oh the irony... The point is chum, that people from that region find blanketting several different and distinct nationalities and ethnicities with the "oriental" tag is offensive to them, which makes its use, even if it is due to your own ignorance of the issue, offensive to me.

And I can show you countless YouTube videos of Bob "Godzilla" Sapp being absolutely mugged by thousands of rabid admirers in Japan, along with such icons as The Rock, or Hulk Hogan.... I can Gaurantee you Sapp was and likely still is as famous in Japan as Reem ever could hope to be. A few years ago Sapp was the individual in Japan who had the highest number of endorsment and commercial contracts in the country, out of anyone.

 

You could duct tape a man with no arms to a man with no legs and put them in a ring to fight a panda bear and the Japanese people would line up in droves to see it.

 

They love the freak show, which explains the love for the Reem and his horse meat diet and big fluffy muscles.

Well that's the funny thing KFM. The owner of my fav restuarant is this sweet old guy from Hong Kong that barely speaks English. The food there is outstanding. No flouresant red sweet and sour sauces or other westernized Chinese cuisine.

I just might, or at least have his son translate for me. I personally am fascinated with the culture and history of Asia, so I do not use the blanket word. A Vietnamese is a Vietnamese, a Thai is a Thai etc. but I never gave much thought to Oriental being a degrogatory term.

"Oriental" in some circles is seen as a racist term...in other circles it is politically correct. some people see "oriental" as a term used for goods/products and not something to describe a populaiton of people.

 

however you look at it the term is taboo in most places when referring to people, it is okay when used to label a good or product, hence oriental rugs, resturantes, furniture.

Hmm, that does make some sense, I guess you don't usually here people refer to others as oriental. Isn't it kind of like calling someone black though? I mean if I don't know an asian persons exact origin I would say they were Asian or Oriental or CHINESE!!! LOL. I think it's all how you use the word.

gotcha, but really I am not a hugely PC kinda guy. Everything is a label of some type. You can either let things eat you up or just shrug it off as inconsiquential.

 

Take for instance the Indian term. Up here Native Americans are referred to as First Nations. Which seems to be accepted but is, in essence, just a nicer sounding blanket term. The Coast Salish people where I grew up are culturally very different with a different historic language to say the Cree nations of Ontario.

 

Even Native Americans aren't native to America, but migrated here from Asia, and if you go back far enough we all came from Africa (unless you believe in a literal way Genisis, in which case we are all Iraqis ;) ).
