Who has the best Muay Thai in the UFC? Barboza?

I've trained Freestyle in the past, and have transitioned into Muay Thai for the past year. So I want to discuss the technique used in each style.

From what i witnessed Saturday (other then the fact the Athletic Comission needs to reconstruct their judging system) is that Edson Barboza had ridiculously amazing technique in his Muay Thai.

Some of you might think that Anderson Silva, Shogun, Wanderle,i Aldo or even Overeem have beautiful Muay Thai, but I would only say they corporate aspects of the Muay Thai game into their styles. Anderson has an exelent Thai Clinch, as does Wanderlei and ect, but that does not mean their Muay Thai technique is perfect.

On the other hand, Edson Barboza was very thrilling to watch. His kicks, his punches, his knees. They where all text book perfect. It was amazing and I see this man as a contender in the coming year.

What do you guys think?

Ehh, well smaller guys USUALLY have better technique.

I'm generalizing of course, but by that logic I'd say Aldo's is pretty sick.

Shogun has a very aggressive style, but his technique often isn't perfect - same goes for Wanderlei.

A. Silva has a diluted version of MT, where he mixes in OTHER martial arts so I don't think it'd be fair to say him...

Thiago Alves? Brandon Vera?

Overeem is just a powerhouse with great technique, but I'd say most of his "technique" and ability comes from raw power rather than technical prowess.

But yeah, I'll stick with Aldo.

Ya he decimated a D- level fighter' date=' big f'n deal. Comparing him to the likes of Shogun, Anderson, and Wandy in any way or saying he is better at any aspect of mma is bandwaggon nut hugging.[/quote']

When you're fighting, professional and amateur, technique goes out the window after the first 2 minutes unless you know exactly what you're doing. I'm comparing the technique used, if you had any idea what you're talking about you wouldn't be saying something so damn ignorant. I get what you're saying, but that does not mean Barboza didn't display TECHNIQUE that has not been displayed by anyone other than Aldo.

Aldo probably takes it. but I'd pay twice for a PPV to see Aldo defend the LW title (if he gets it after he moves up) against Barboza.

haha' date=' do you wear it like that now???[/quote']

Nah, I have practice 5-6 days a week. So when I roll or just train my hair gets messed up. And I have a feeling if I go out partying with straightened hair, my drunk friends wouldn't approve. Lol

you had any recent fights?

if so' date=' how have they gone?[/quote']

I haven't fought in 3 months. But I started competing this year and I'm 3-0 in Amateur Thai Boxing/Kick Boxing. I'm training at ATT Davie in Florida for a couple of weeks, but I'm going to move to Fight Sport in Miami.

Thiago Alves's kicks are picture perfect textbook Muay Thai technique.

Anderson Silva has great all around Muay Thai. Very quick and powerful too!

Wanderlei is more like a Muay Thai brawler.

Shogun has some great Muay Thai too. IMO Him & Anderson are at the top.

I like how Shogun whips those hips over so quick and delivers a kick like a ******* mule!

(Shogun's kicks are suprisingly FAST and very accurate as well!)

Shogun has great powerful knees from the clinch too!

Clinch is solid and technical too.

-Shogun grabs the top of the head for control

-Keeps his elbows firmly pressed against the opponents shoulders for more control

-And keeps his opponents head close to his chest area/ and keeping the opponent in very close so he doesn't have room to generate powerful strikes ect.

Mauricio and Anderson have suprisingly very solid and technical Thai clinches for MMA fighter.

Like almost as good as the pure Thai fighters with that old school Muay Thai

Also, Shogun's punching technique is not all that great but he throws HARD and FAST heavy shots. More then anything Shogun has AWESOME awesome timing! and he's fairly accurate!

If Shogun brought his technique up he'd have unbelievable KO power.

I doubt anyone will agree with this but the style I like watching most is Bisping?s. Not sure how he will rate with the purists of MT, but to me its him.

(laugh if you must).

Also having perfect Muay Thai technique is nice and all but it is a liability in MMA. You need a wider stance to prepare for the TD.

He's a successful striker, but not a Muay Thai specialist by any means. Yeah, it works in the cage and I enjoy watching him fight.
