Melvinj0
Dana has been going pretty crazy latley with cutting fighters, mabey its just because hes going crazy or mabey its just because he has nothing else to do. But all in all its going to be extremely bad for the UFC. When fighters see this happening they develop a fear for loseing, they know that now even if they only lose one fight their UFC career could be in jeperody. So what do you think this fear is going to do to them? Its defientley not gunna make them perform *Better*, its going to make them perform *Safer*. We are gunna see ALOT more LnP'ers, ALOT more cage humpers, and ALOT less strikers/finishers.
uaquin
Actually I think it will have the opposite effect. There is one almost guaranteed way to stick with the UFC put on exciting fights. If you put on exciting fights you make fans. Fans=drawring power. Drawing power=$$$ in Dana's pockets. $$$ in Dana's pocket buys a couple losses as long as you performed well in those losses. One loss by a guy like Lentz and you will see him on a bum rush express out of the UFC.
Martino231
I agree. There are so many cases of normally exciting fighters coming out in fear of being cut and putting on a boring performance just to be safe. The normally entertaining Chris Leben simply lay on Jay Silva for 3 rounds when his position in the UFC was in jeopardy, as did Tom Lawlor against Patrick Cote. Hell, even Tyson Griffin, usually one of the most exciting and explosive guys in the UFC tried to play it steady and safe when his position in the organisation was on the line. Exodus9mm
The fact is, the UFC does have too many fighters. I agree that they probably need to shed at least 20-30 fighters (not including the WEC merger stuff). However, it remains to be seen if Dana has the smarts to know which ones to let go. GHH was a travesty. Slick Nick, probably a good call. We need to see PPVs that have 5 sick fights on the main card, not 2 with 3 that nobody cares about. They can air those on their Versus stuff. Drawing power=$$$ in Dana's pockets. $$$ in Dana's pocket buys a couple losses as long as you performed well in those losses. One loss by a guy like Lentz and you will see him on a bum rush express out of the UFC. The guys that get cut aren't typically exciting fighters that draw big crowds, they are the boring guys that may win a lot but do so in a boring fashion. Either that or guys who just don't generate big numbers. Gerald Harris for example is a good fighter but he isn't very fun to watch and doesn't generate numbers so he was always one loss away from being cut. This isn't a new thing by any means, there's been so many guys that I liked watching fight that have been cut over the years. The only time it bothers me is when it's guys that are VERY good fighters but perhaps aren't wroth what they might have demanded for new contracts, guys like Dan Henderson or Fabricio Werdum. These are guys who are clearly top ten in their weight class but still get cut either because UFC doesn't want to pay what they're asking or because there wasn't enough effort made to market them so they never got the attention they deserve. That's one area where I could see the talent pool suffer. It seems unlikely that when they trim down the roster that they will only cut the least talented, lowest payed guys. It will probably also be some really good fighters who deserve big contracts based on talent that their popularity doesn't justify. They have to keep on some lower end guys to fill out fight cards and keep their budget down. In a perfect world they would just keep the best guys from each division but I doubt that will be the case. Overall though I think a tightened roster will lead to more exciting fights but it could also lead to some very talented guys who aren't real exciting being cut. King_Can
really bad thread. have you not noticed all the new fighters that the wec brought in? ofcoarse there is going to be a lay off of fighters. they cant show that many an event. StephenColbert
I disagree.. I think dana is trying to get more fighters that are finishers.. falcao, the guy who just KO'd mcsweeny, vemola.. except they did just sign that guy that has like 18 decisions in 25 fights or whatever.. that guy should be no fun to watch. zykllonp
I can imagine that since ufc merged with wec there will be more to come. They wont need as much dead weight around because they added 2 more belts and therefor more high caliber fighters and cut more and more guys because they ballooned there roster.... just saying

Melvinj0
really bad thread. have you not noticed all the new fighters that the wec brought in? ofcoarse there is going to be a lay off of fighters. they cant show that many an event. Doesnt change the fact that fighters are gunna still be very cautious of being cut, this will result in boring fight. Dana was cutting alot before the merger, so no thats not the only reason. Change your sig btw, your 0-0 in sig bets. Just cus you suck at figuring out how they work doesnt mean you get an auto win.

thesystem25
if your affraid of being cut your gunna put on a show and go all out cutting people is good It's not good. If a fighter wins, he doesn't get cut, even if he fights a boring style. Guys on the verge of getting cut will fight safe, we have seen it happening. Or guys on the verge of a title shot also fight safe. The problem is a lot of the fighters themselves don't understand how to market themselves and the benefits of being an exciting fighter who goes for finishes. Take Chuck for example. Even though he should retire, he will always be a draw. Chuck could still make more money then the current UFC champs. The other problem is the fighters are confused about what exactly MMA is. It's a sport as much as it's entertainment.
munkie
Actually, on several ****ing occasions, Dana has said that if you go out there and fight your *** off, make it exciting, then you are more likely to stay in the UFC than if you go out there and dry**** your way to victory. How the **** do you think Keith Jardine was able to get 13 fights?
