DSCHNEID
I've read some comments on other MMA sites and some have suggested that the UFC should stop giving a win bonus, and start giving a finish bonus (and keep the KO, Sub, and Fight of the night bonuses as well). As UFC 123 headliner, Rampage Jackson said, MMA is getting more like boxing with fighters trying to win by points. Is this solution the answer to that? Now not all fights can be finished, and some of the greatest fights in history have gone the distance, but with these fighters making a lot of money as it is, would this solution encourage guys to go the extra mile and try to finish? Plus guys who make a history fight will win a Fight of the Night bonus anyway. What are your thoughts?
juice64011
I think that they should have a win bonus and a finish bonus. So lets say that they used to give a $50,000 win bonus. Take half of that and change it to a finish bonus. So the fighter would get $25,000 if they win and another $25,000 if they finish. Some fighters deserve bonuses for great fights even though they couldn't get the finish.
MoZZez
Not unless the lower fighters get a raise As it stands now the bottom of the bucket get scraps A win bonus gives them a way to double their already pathetic income

dfwGSP
I think people should quit complaining. The sport shouldn't adapt to the fighters, the fighters should adapt to the sport.

The sport shouldn't adapt to the fighters' date=' the fighters should adapt to the sport.[/quote'] Alot of fighters are playing it safe and not going for the finish so it is just an incentive to make them try harder. Right now they have no reason to change how they fight.
uaquin
Alot of fighters are playing it safe and not going for the finish so it is just an incentive to make them try harder. Right now they have no reason to change how they fight. I think they are already making moves for that. First look at the Jon Fitch and Gray Maynard situations. Both these guys were promised title shots with a victory and both got passed over because of bad performances. Second, when it's contract negotiation time, the UFC is paying on draw power. You can bet a fighters show+win money is directly proportional to how well they draw. How well they draw usually depends on what kind of fights they put on. Chris Leben for example makes very good money relative to where his sits in the rankings. Thirdly, A fighter that isn't exciting, doesn't draw well and fights overly safe to get the win is much more likely to get cut when they do lose a fight or two. This is even more the case with the WEC merger and what size roster the UFC can maintain. If Gerlad Harris is any indication, I think a lot of fighters are ******** their pants right now. Why punish a guy who went three rounds, kept it busy and entertaining, but failed to finish his opponent?

Mikmania
not too bad of an idea I think but it would suck for the people who just can not be finished.
