Was G-Sots overrated?

When he was on his winning streak. Because Dos Anjos soaked his **** Saturday.

Dennis Siver showed at UFC 127 that George Sotiropolous' major weakness is his striking.

Rafael Dos Anjos took advantage of that and got the KO.

George Sotiropolous is not overrated. He is a good fighter, It is his striking that needs to improve or his defense for that matter.

I never really was overly impressed with him, he couldn't finish Joe daddy, and IMO winning streaks shouldn't be an indication of title contention. One can earn a shot with a victory or two over top guys, but won't get anywhere beating up 10 cans in a row.

He has great ground game, but that's it. Not really my type of fighter.

What you forgot to add is that Rafael Dos Anjos has better ground game in your opinion.

Unless they fight again and Dos Anjos submits or out grapples George on the ground' date=' It will be then known that Dos Anjos has better ground game.[/quote']

Of course. I am willing to put money on dos Anjos having the better ground game.

G-Sots is still a good fighter, but guys were so tentative of striking with him because of their fear of getting taken down and submitted. A guy that builds up a 7-0 record in the UFC definitely has a mystique surrounding him that makes fighters tentative, causing them to fight their fight. Look at guys like Lyoto Machida or other guys who have had long undefeated streaks in MMA. Nobody goes at them with any sort of tenacity because their opponents are only afraid of what they're going to do. As soon as a guy brings the fight to them or comes straight at them, they end up getting challenged. Denis Siver took away some of that mystique surrounding G-Sots by taking the fight to him, and Dos Anjos took advantage of a tentative G-Sots. George just has to figure out what works for him in a fight and use that in his game plans. He still has the ability to become a contender again.

G-Sot doesn't have that bad striking like people are trying to make out. He is a better boxer than quite a lot of MMA fighters. IMO, His chin is suspect. He has been dropped quite a few times, KO'd on TUF and now by dos Anjos.

I'm not saying he has a bad chin, it might just be his striking defence, but he has been hurt a few times.

As much as I'll support a guy from my homeland...

He went in swinging wildly & he has a suss chin..

He got clipped & KTFO... He should of played to his strength,

& thats wait & go for the TDD...

dos Anjos was a hard style for him though, if he stood back and waited, his leg would have been crippled with kicks. Not to mention that he has great takedown defence aswell as being very competent on the ground.
