JP24
It wasn't long ago when everyone was complaining about Wrestling being the most trained discipline simply because it's the easiest way to win a fight, but if it's not just me imagining things, MMA seems to be going in a different direction. Suddenly there's a bunch of dudes who can stay on their feet no matter how hard the other guy tries to drag him to the ground. Does anyone else notice this? I don't think the "Wrestling Era", if you will, will be over for a while, but I see more people who can defend takedowns come up. It turns out that there are guys in every division who are hovering around in the top 10 that are extremely hard to take down, and even harder to keep down. towhatend
I mean that was Liddell's whole thing - using wrestling in reverse. He'd keep the fight on the feet, sprawl and knock people out. Only person I remember really taking him down was Couture in their first fight. Contemporary fighters just need to be more well rounded. That's another thing plenty of the top 10 guys have now. Obviously there are still specialists there, but the most one-dimensional guy I can think of in the top 5 is Fitch - and he STILL finds ways to win. JP24
I'd love to see more guys like Carlos Condit, who can beat the piss out of guys on the feet, have TDD worth a crap, and if they do get taken down, they can be very threatening from the back. 7irish1
What I would like to see is a re-vamping of the ref'ing. Give all those total bore fighters (human blankets) 15 seconds to advance or ACTUALLY try and do damage after they get their take downs or stand 'em up! I'd give em' 60-75 seconds to advance. 15 is kind of unfair... All you'd need is a good guard to get it stood back up.
