Flyweight Divison (125-)......really Dana?

UFC President Dana White has recently released news of the UFC acquiring a Flyweight Division. This division is planned to become active in 2012. I honestly don't see the point of adding a Flyweight Division. Most fighters at this weight are happily fighting under the Shooto promotion in Japan. I think that the only thing to come of this will be boring fights with no-name fighters and no finishes.

There's a few 135ers in the UFC that are natural 125 fighters. You can walk in the 140s and still fight at 125. Johnson is only 5'3" and maybe 140 tops he wants flyweight. Benevidez also wants 125 he's 5'3" and probably not any heavier than 145. Bowles was interviewed after knocking Torres out for the title. He was asked if he would ever consider going up in weight. His response was no if anything I would go down. 125 didn't even exist in the WEC at the time.

These three alone are ranked bantamweights and they will run 125. I'm interested in seeing them matched up whether its at bantamweight or fly. It makes sense to give the smaller bantams there own weightclass but the one issue with flyweight is it will weaken bantam. Johnson and Joe B will drop for sure.

Both weightclasses will be fairly thin at the top with 3 or 4 guys standing out over everyone else. It will take some time and obviously international talent will help. Little Asians need to come train stateside if they really want to compete at an elite level.

Of course 125ers are boring!

How dare Jussier de Silva use front flips instead of sprawls to avoid takedowns! I mean how boring is that! How dare they not get tired! This is AMURKA! WE NEED BEER AND GASSED OUT GUYS THROWIN' HOOKS AND SPEAKIN' AMURKAN!

125 Division will be great. No more weight classes after that though, because all of humanity is finally encompassed.

It's rare to find guys who fight below 125 pounds, also a Super Heavyweight is a bad idea because guys that big don't know how to fight.

Yes, I have actually. I used to watch Shooto fights online before the site I watched them on got taken down. Ya, know man.....I'm not even gonna argue over this. If you like watching Flyweight fights that's cool. I just don't see it lasting to long in the UFC....I guess we can just agree to disagree.

People really don't seem to like my opinions but if I had Danas control I would invest in a WMMA weight class before I did fly. He's really spreading himself to thin here and it's showing. He's trying to capitalize on the growth of the sport with more belts, which equal more events and it's a very valid move. But when your fighters start looking like dwarfs your gonna start losing viewers. Hes an investor and I believe he's making a mistake. Headline Cyborg Santos with a title defence on the main card of a UFC event and take that gamble before you go turn to fly. I imagine investing in a whole division as opposed to a single title fight and seeing where it goes would be less risky from a business perspective. I really think we are underestimating woman here, both the male and female body are made for combat.

Well' date=' you clearly know little about the flyweight division, and if you don't like it then don't watch them fight.[/quote']

What proof do you have that "I know little" about the Flyweight Division? So what you're pretty much saying is that anyone who doesn't agree with you doesn't know about fighting, right?

I have to agree with the O.P.........

Why don't we just add a division for midgets while were at it?

And Dana says there isn't enough women fighters to have them fighting? BS, I would much rather see Cyborg knocking *****es out than two paperweights pitter patter for three rounds!

These cards are already watered down too much as it is. Bad choice Dana.

What do people have against little fighters?

125 would be a highly competitive division, and we all know how the little guys put on a fight.

You know, I've seen little people get upset over bigger fighters, (It's a maculinity thing, I think. Small man's syndrome,) but what's there to be threatened about 125'ers? Why are people so vehement about little guys getting to fight?
